Ilford was founded in 1879 in the English town of the same name. They are B&W royalty in the photography industry thanks to their 140-year heritage and their support for photographers with chemicals and development as well as film. In the mid-20th Century they produced several well-regarded camera lines (including one given to Princess Elizabeth that was later stolen!) but today they are focused on producing the best films and development processes that they can.
When you buy your Ilford HP5 film from us we can ship it across the UK, Europe, USA, New Zealand, Australia and Canada (more countries planned soon!) So buy your Ilford HP5 Plus 35mm film today and dive back into the fun of 35mm film photography!

I did just one roll at a wedding recently and was blown away by the images. I used film when I started out but the convenience of digital took over. I have recently purchased a Leica R8 and RE from a friend and I’m loving trying different film stocks. This HP5 + has been around for ever and for good reason. The couple were very pleased with their little film cameo roll to go with the digital shots I produced.

HP no bother with the hover
This was shot on HP5 pushed a stop before it was Wondified as it was a muzzy old day up Norfolk.
Bit grainer than box speed (400) but still rendered the 'hover sharp as it flew off over the beach.
I was also impressed as ever by how clean the scans were.
Tweaked a little in post with a vig and a bit contrast added, which also increased the lumps and bumps a bit.

HP just the ticket
That's on a train, so that's not quite straight because that was going over some points or something at the time.
Reasonably sharp and not too noisy, lovely tones and nicely developed by the Wondies.
I flirt with films - see reviews passim - but always love the results HP5 delivers, not to mention it's still relatively cheap at £9.50 a roll, which will buy you a return ticket from King's Lynn to Downham Market on a good day to put things into perspective.
This left the station exposed at box speed, on a Nikon FM2 paired up with a 35mm on the sharp end.
I never record shutter speed/aperture etc because life's too short.

HP5 pushed to 800 down in Dorset
HP5 is another one of my why do I ever bother using anything else films.
Except when I use something else and say the same about that.
I pushed it to 800 on a recent trip down the RNLI in Dorset and was quite pleased with the results after it got wondified.
I was still sailing close to the wind for the indoor shot inside the lifeboat centre where they build and maintain the all-weather boats at 1/30.
Maybe my hands get steadier the further south from Norfolk I go.
It picked up some tonal range despite being asked to look at a large, bright orange boat under artificial light. I sometimes struggle getting things like this to look right using digital, so a pleasant surprise.
The sculpture is a memorial to all the lifeboat crew who've lost their lives trying to save others since the charity started 200 years ago.
I also shot that on digital but film just blew it out of the water.
The harbour pictures are so-so composition-wise, but the reflections came out better than they looked squinting through the camera after I bumped up the contrast in post.
So that's another five stars from me.
