Ilford was founded in 1879 in the English town of the same name. They are B&W royalty in the photography industry thanks to their 140-year heritage and their support for photographers with chemicals and development as well as film. In the mid-20th Century they produced several well-regarded camera lines (including one given to Princess Elizabeth that was later stolen!) but today they are focused on producing the best films and development processes that they can.

Wonderful contrasty, fine film. Fabulous with bright, deep blue skies with red or orange filter. A recent film convert from many years shooting digital, and embracing medium format goodness to move as much as possible to in-camera/capture rather than post. Very forgiving film, despite the low ISO. I've found overexposing a stop or 2 gives plenty of latitude for shadow detail. Between this and FP4, its my go-to B&W film for day and well lit scenes.

Ilford Pan F Plus- 120 Film

One of my favourite Ilford films. It works well in daylight and some well lit interiors. It's a great film for experimentation.

I mostly use this in my old folders/TLRs due to their slower shutter speeds, the fine grain and intense contrast is beautiful for landscape work, and the highlight detail retention even when exposing more towards shadows is exceptional.

Review over 30 years use!

I have been using Ilford films since my school days which were a long time ago!!
I am back in my home darkroom which is a bonus for bringing out the best in PanF. I use Id-11 developer. The film has fine grain and great contrast. I love the tonal separation you can get from it. Thoroughly recommend this film. I use it for portraits in Spain where admittedly the light is bright so handholding is not an issue. Great price as well.
Sample photo was printed on FB warmtone paper.

My Favourite Film

I use this film in my box cameras as the shutter speeds are low and the ISO 50 really helps.

I would highly recommend this film for anyone shooting box cameras or low speed shutters.

It really produces some great images and is especially great with landscapes.
