Kodak - properly known as Kodak Eastman - was founded in America in 1888 and dominated the "Western" world of photography for the next 100 years, constantly in fierce rivalry with the Japanese Fuji. Similarly to Fuji the advent of digital photography at the turn of the century caused significant financial problems. A late attempt to win in the compact market was hit by the rise of mobile photography and bankruptcy followed in 2012. Fortunately the photography business has survived under the Kodak Alaris name - based in Hertfordshire, England - and they have delighted the analogue industry by pledging continued support for film production and the promise of bringing back old favourite emulsions.

I ended up using my first ever Portra 160 on a very overcast day in the woods. To my surprise, I got some decent photos with my Olympus OM20.
Great film to shoot in broad daylight. Ideal for portraits, renders skin-tones very true to life. Consistent and reliable results. Can be easily pushed whilst retaining details.
This film produces lovely images, the colour and the sharpness are fantastic. I'll definitely be buying more when the sun comes out again!
Whent to Italië, loved it, sharpness, details, dynamic range. It's just second to none this film. Hope kodak will never stop producing this film stock.
This film is like a classic Disney princess: beautiful, subtle and unearthly perfect. Not like Ektar or Velvia perfect, in a clinical, artificial way but just naturally perfect. It gives you the pastel tones and low contrast images with super fine grain. It's great for portraits (can't tell it by its name, right?) but if you have plenty of sunshine, it will allow you to capture nice landscapes as well. Like any other Portra out there, can get quite dull on an overcast day. It's ISO 160 so remember to take a fast lens or a tripod with you!
