Kodak - properly known as Kodak Eastman - was founded in America in 1888 and dominated the "Western" world of photography for the next 100 years, constantly in fierce rivalry with the Japanese Fuji. Similarly to Fuji the advent of digital photography at the turn of the century caused significant financial problems. A late attempt to win in the compact market was hit by the rise of mobile photography and bankruptcy followed in 2012. Fortunately the photography business has survived under the Kodak Alaris name - based in Hertfordshire, England - and they have delighted the analogue industry by pledging continued support for film production and the promise of bringing back old favourite emulsions.

This is by far my new favourite landscape film. With very punchy colours and next to no grain, even in a high resolution scan. I'd say it's best to shoot this film under clear sky's as that's when it really shines. The shots I've taken with Ektar during an overcast day just don't have the right look to me. Also, the way Ektar renders blue is just magical!
I was pleased to discover that Ektar 100 is a fine grain colour negative film that scans well and in a test compared to a digital shot, there was no clue a colour negative had been scanned. The colours are vivid with high sharpness and a great dynamic range that is forgiving if exposure isn't quite correct.
I find Kodak films have warmer tones although i shot my test roll in some woodland rich in greens.
A great film at a good price for quality results.
I love this film, it’s usually my go to; great grain, and love the high contrast and colour reproduction. If you’ve never shot it, you need to give it a go, it never gets old.
Over the years I must have shot in excess of 1200 rolls of this film, and
, Coupled with my Contax 139 quartz, it never failed me. I started using it back in the 1990's hike I was working as a touring musician, and I could be in bright sun one day and in a darker place the next, but Ektar and the Contax always handled things perfectly well. If you're looking for good film that, coupled with a decent camera, will cope with most things, look no further... YOU'VE JUST FOUND IT!!
The colours of the film are truly stunning. I shot this film in January yet the photos turned out looking beautifully warm and saturated in amazing colour. This was my first roll shot using an SLR and not a point & shoot, so I was very afraid I was going to mess up a lot of the photos, however Ektar really is incredibly forgiving and my shots turned out great! Have received countless compliments on the photographs taken on this film
