Kodak - properly known as Kodak Eastman - was founded in America in 1888 and dominated the "Western" world of photography for the next 100 years, constantly in fierce rivalry with the Japanese Fuji. Similarly to Fuji the advent of digital photography at the turn of the century caused significant financial problems. A late attempt to win in the compact market was hit by the rise of mobile photography and bankruptcy followed in 2012. Fortunately the photography business has survived under the Kodak Alaris name - based in Hertfordshire, England - and they have delighted the analogue industry by pledging continued support for film production and the promise of bringing back old favourite emulsions.

Fast film with fine grain

I like to shoot with natural light and it can be tricky to shoot on overcast days and avoid grain. Not a problem with Portra 800, which provides beautiful shots with natural looking colours and fine grain.

Perfect for: Landscapes, Street Photography, Low light/Night
Still my favourite

I've only been into photography for around six months now but this is my favourite film to shoot with. It's more expensive than some of the other Kodak stock but I personally think it's worth the extra money - the tones are beautiful and the quality of the photo overall looks better. I would definitely recommend.

Great for low light.

Had my first go at night photography with Portra 800 - really happy with it and can't wait to get more.

For some reason this was the first ever film stock I shot. Ever. Used in a canon A1 I took it to the woods on a snowy day and got some beautiful shots. The colour rendition is stunning and accurate to real life and the grain is very fine. Love this film for landscapes and I want to shoot it again.
