Ilford was founded in 1879 in the English town of the same name. They are B&W royalty in the photography industry thanks to their 140-year heritage and their support for photographers with chemicals and development as well as film. In the mid-20th Century they produced several well-regarded camera lines (including one given to Princess Elizabeth that was later stolen!) but today they are focused on producing the best films and development processes that they can.

Great for sunny days

I have been getting acquainted with my Goodman Zone Z1 and I decided to see how it fared with Ilford FP4. I chose a really sunny day and wandered off around the local nature trails and farm roads not far from my home. I am very impressed with how my Goodman Zone Z1 handled FP4. I got some great contrast on the blossoming Hawthornes I found on my walk and I have a few more rolls to play with through the year. I could have done with a few clouds to add to the scenery, but where I live you make the most of take a sunny day when it comes. I have shot several rolls of FP4 in 35mm, but this was my first time shooting 120 and it wont be my last.

Great all round film

This is the great all time, all round film. It has greatexposure latitude and responds well to most developers. I normally use Microphen which enables you to rate FP4 at iso 200 and the film still delivers good, punchy negatives. I normally prefer my negs to be on the dense side so even with Microphen I will often rate the film at iso 125 0r even iso 100.

Smooth grain goodness

Sorry about rough scan from my phone 😬Decent contrast and smooth grain at ISO100.
Best used in open sun, good developers are Ilfosol 3, Id-11 and Perceptol.

Old Reliable

What is there to add about Ilford FP4? It's as dependable as old workboots, in 35mm and 120. just keep it lit and it's fab.

Probably my favourite

Is good in basically every situation due to its latitude.
I recently used it in my pinholes and I find it awesome. Easy to develop and beatiful little grain.
