Ilford Ortho Plus 80 - 120 Film

I experimented with this film for a portrait shoot, I'm very happy with the results. Stunning grain and tonal range.

Contrasty, often dramatic, but very fine-grained. I like this film for the mood it brings to scenes that otherwise may have appeared a bit flat with other more conventional B&W offerings.

Shooting Ortho Plus on landscapes really produces images that could have been shot over a hundred years ago, such is the amazing look of orthochromatic film. But its in studio portraits that Ortho Plus 80 really shines, with the unique skin textures, the fine grain of the image. If your subject has blue eyes, you can also achieve a very ghostly look with the eyes.

This was only the second film that I developed my own shots and got really pleasing results even though I think that my developing could have been better! I found the film really easy to use and exposure easy to achieve. All of my images came out reasonably well though I think that I may have made a schoolboy error in developing (perhaps not enough agitation which would affect the final result). The film is on the expensive side though. I shot all of my images on tripod which is probably a must with a low film speed. Overall very pleased.

I had recently purchased a number of very old roll film cameras including an 1897 No.2 Bullseye Kodak with the intent of bringing it back into use and not confined to a shelf. I decided to test it out with Orthochromatic film which fit with the age of the camera and home developed it which was a new and fun experience.
The results not only proved the camera worked but the overall look with good contrast and fine grain had me buying another couple of rolls. Very happy.
