As many have said before - it's a great thing that you can even buy Polaroid SX-70 film DECADES after it was first introduced. Just take a second to think about that. That's mad. But it's just not quite there yet. I say yet, maybe it never will be? There are loads of shots that do come out really well. But there are others where the magenta shadow gremlins creep in. And magenta shadows annoy the heck out of me. So essentially it's an excellent product with the slight caveat that more often than not your shadows will come out with a magenta twang. 4/5 would date for a few months but the niggling issues would soon come out on top causing me to self-sabotage the relationship into oblivion. The black & white variant of this film is top tier however, leading me to shoot that instead 99% of the time.
A great film to use on the SX70 or mint cameras. Unfortunately you need to use a few packs in different lighting to work out for yourself the best way to adjust the meter to get good results. Polaroid really need to make it more affordable. They also make great presents to gift photos.
It's expensive, hard to get consistent results and I love it nonetheless. Of all the photos I take, people love the Polaroids the most - not for the technical reproduction of the image but the feeling. I think these are great for quick trips or special events.
The Polaroid chemistry continues to improve in terms of colours and developing time.
Polaroid film in general doesn't have loads of latitude and I find that to more pronounced in SX-70 film. Shoot it in soft, fairly even light, or embrace the hyper-contrast look with black shadows and/or blown out highlights. Takes some practice but it's gorgeous once you master it.
