One of my new favourite filmstocks!

Loving this film, got it in a mystery box and might have never tried it as I stick with Cinestills 800T mostly from the Cinestill family. So glad I tried it, got some of my favourite photos on it! Lovely colours, the imperfections really add charm and character to your shots. Cannot

Very nice film stock

I liked the contrast and saturation. Shadow recovery is good and I can live with the slight halation.

Nice

Got some nice results, but a bit expensive for me as I haven't figured out how to use the camera yet!! I would think this would be very good for doing close portraits.

Excellent for wet landscapes

These were taken on a wet day in the Yorkshire Dales. Cinestill 400D has wonderful range and is one of the most versatile films I've used. In 35mm for example I've used at 800 iso for gigs with no loss of quality. I think it comes into its own for moody skies and seems well suited for wet UK landscapes.

A new film from Cinestill that feels very different

I've shot a lot of Cinestill 800T and 50D, so I was excited to try their new 400D offering, which could fill the gap between the two very different speeds and styles of the existing formats. I shot this roll in a mixture of indoor, outdoor, daylight and night-time settings and and was very surprised by the saturation and contrast I was able to achieve.

To my eyes the results are very dramatic, with strong/bold colours that are similar to Fuji Velvia, and equally strong contrast. I probably wouldn't recommend this film for general holiday snaps or quaint countryside landscapes, but I already love it for portraits and urban scenes.

It's unmistakably Cinestill - the red halation effect is still there, but it's definitely amped up in a way that makes photos really punchy and impactful.
