Climate Commitment
Since June 2022 we have partnered with Shopify Planet to remove 100% of the carbon footprint generated by shipping your film orders.
This includes all items shipped from our warehouse (films, cameras, darkroom equipment etc) as well as all orders for our developing lab 🚚

What is this about?
At Analogue Wonderland we want to make decisions that are right for our people, our analogue community, and our planet.
When it comes to making good decisions about the planet there are several elements that are in our control. For example our packaging is recycled and recyclable and we use the most eco-friendly chemicals available in our lab - but the largest carbon footprint of most e-commerce stores is created by the transport of each individual order from our warehouse to your home.
So this is where we want to intervene, and remove 100% of the carbon generated by delivery of each order. So you can shop with us confident that your film delivery isn't contributing to the climate crisis!
Why Shopify Planet? 🌏
Shopify Planet is an initiative with a piece of software that has direct and independent access to our shipping information. Every month it calculates the carbon generated by our deliveries (plus a little extra to make sure), and bills us automatically to cover the cost of removing the associated carbon from the atmosphere via specific partner businesses.
There are several similar companies who promise to perform the same task but we have committed to Shopify Planet for three key reasons:
1) They commit to removal and not offset of carbon. This is an important distinction: Shopify Planet funds companies with innovative and proven methods of carbon removal that will make a difference for years, decades, centuries to come. You can find out more here
2) It is moderated by Shopify - who run our entire web platform - so you can be sure that it is totally plugged-in and accurate for our deliveries. There is no way for us to miss our commitment!
3) They are transparent about their methods and their partners. This sounds like a basic thing but unfortunately isn't necessarily true for all eco companies promising carbon footprint plans...
How is the carbon removed?
We have signed up to a plan that funds companies focused on removing atmospheric carbon for 10+ years via methods such as soil carbon storage and targeted reforestation.
The exact companies and methods funded will evolve over time - which is quite right, as technologies and innovations change - and is actively managed by the Shopify Sustainability Fund. But you can see all the companies currently supported by the Fund here and one example in video form below:
What does it cost?
To you: nothing!
To us: a set amount per order each month. This is based on the delivery distances expected per order (worked out through information from our couriers), the mix of road/air/sea that orders take, and the needs of the companies funded by the partnership.
The total cost is then calculated by Shopify Planet and billed monthly, with the money being distributed to the companies removing the carbon.
What's next?
This is a really important step for us to tackle the single biggest climate impact from our business. However, it doesn't mean that Analogue Wonderland is carbon neutral as a whole entity.
We still have work to do, and big ideas for the future of Analogue Wonderland's sustainability commitments that cover everything from our electricity - to our lab chemistry - to our suppliers.
