FPP X-Ray Film is an Orthochromatic B&W film with blue sensitivity that gives your photos a subtle glow and enables the film to be handled in red safe-light.

Use daylight balanced light sources in artificial light to compensate for the lack of red sensitivity, a highly dilute developer and handle carefully to avoid scratches.

  • Suggested Speed outdoors: ISO 10 in sunlight
  • Suggested Speed using strobe / flash: ISO 5
  • Markings: Rounded corners and emulsion marking on long edg
  • Emulsion: Double-sided (recommended to notch/hole punch)
  • Sensitivity: Blue/Green (load in dark or red safelight only)
  • Reciprocity: up to 4 sec. as metered, +1 stop 8 sec. and above

Development: Use FPP D96 (stock solution 3.5 min @ 68 degrees F or 1:1 5 min @ 68 degrees F) or anything highly dilute like HC110 Dilution H, Rodinal, Caffenol, Pyrocat, and Diafine. Development time 3.5 min. at 68F/20C.

The blue and green sensitivity enables the film to be handled in red safe-light and allows processing by inspection

A little like ATO 2.1….

This film is actually Foma’s Indux R5, kindly rebranded for us by FPP, as Foma won’t sell it directly to the public. But there’s a datasheet on their website at https://www.foma.cz/en/catalogue-indux-r5-detail-371. Both sides of this film are sensitised, so it requires careful handling, but don’t get paranoid - apart from a few small scratches where film holders have gripped the edges over zealously, I’ve had no major problems. I developed it in a tank and, after a couple of failures settled on 15 minutes in Rodinal 1+50 at 20c, with normal agitation. Shooting with flash, it was best rated at 6 ISO. It reminds me a little of the much lamented Rollei ATO 2.1. I just hope it doesn’t go the same way!
