Supporting Rare Disease Day 2025

By Paul McKay

Something you might not know about Analogue Wonderland is that we share our unit with a charity: Medics For Rare Disease (charity number 1183996)

And once a year we support them with their biggest annual activity - Rare Disease Day - by shipping hundreds of striped socks from our warehouse 🧦📦

So in honour of Rare Disease Day 2025, we'd like to share their key messages with our wonderful and caring analogue community!

Mary hard at work!

Medics For Rare Disease Mission

To shape a medical profession that can provide people living with rare conditions a timely diagnoses and excellent care.

With over 7000 rare diseases, it’s impossible to know about all of them. However it is possible for doctors to appreciate that rare diseases are collectively common and to recognise the exceptional challenges faced by patients with rare diseases.

Medics for Rare Disease provides education about the relevance of rare disease to everyday clinical medicine and equips doctors to manage their patients effectively. Our ultimate aim is to speed up the journey to diagnosis and improve the patient experience.

How To Get Involved This Rare Disease Day

Medics for Rare Disease is asking clinicians, medical students, allied healthcare professionals and film photographers (my addition! 😅) for help to raise awareness this Rare Disease Day.

It's easy to get involved and GOOD NEWS it involves taking photos 📸 Put on some stripy socks, take a cool photo of them, and post it to social media with the hashtag #showyourstripes and tag @MedicsForRare.

If you want to add a caption then feel free to use this:

"Rare Diseases affect 3.5 million people in the UK. These conditions may be individually rare but collectively they are common and patients with rare diseases share similar challenges, including waiting an average of five years to reach diagnosis."

Rare Disease Day 2025

Raising awareness of Rare Disease amongst healthcare professionals is key to a timely diagnosis and better outcomes.

Thank you

We love the opportunity to use our facilities and operations to help such a worthwhile cause. Good luck to the MFRD team today!
