How do I know what type of medium format film I have?
It will usually say on the film canister or box - either with a description or a short code for the relevant chemistry (C-41 colour, B&W standard, E6 slide etc)
You could also look up the film in our store by searching this page: All Film and checking its specifications.
The most common ones are colour C-41 which is the 'standard' colour negative film, and black and white (B&W).
If you have any concerns of questions about your 120 film developing then just drop a line to our live chat - or email lab@analoguewonderland.co.uk - and we'll quickly help you to the right choice.
How does the process work?

What are the scanning options?
We offer four resolution options with our Noritsu HS-1800 for 120 films:
Scan type | Resolution | File Size | File Type |
Standard | 2079 x 2048 pixels | 2-4 MB | JPEG |
Premium | 4832 x 4760 pixels | 5+ MB | JPEG |
Premium TIFF | 4832 x 4760 pixels | 50+ MB | TIFF |
Standard --> Best for personal websites / zines / projects!
Standard scans will be absolutely fine for posting on social media, personal websites, emailing to friends/family, and for making prints up to size A4
Premium --> Best for exhibits / large prints!
Premium scans are bigger and can also be used for posting on websites that can accept larger files (and won't simply compress that back down like Instagram or Facebook) - and they can make prints up to size A3
Premium TIFF --> Best for home editors and professional display!
Premium TIFF scans are much bigger file sizes, so prepare for a longer download time and more computer memory needed! The bonus of this is that they contain much more information within the same number of pixels as the Premium JPEG scans, so you can edit them yourself (in Photoshop or similar) and get much better results with strong edits.
TIFF is a 'lossless' format, so hasn't had any compression applied by software before arriving in your inbox. It also means that even though the pixel resolution is the same as the Premium scan, you should be able to print slightly larger without loss of meaningful detail - up to size A2.
What are the editing packages?
After we have scanned your 120 film negatives in our Fujifilm Frontier scanners there are a couple of steps to make your photos perfect. Our goal is always to present your scans just as you saw the shot through the viewfinder - but if you are comfortable with post-processing software then you may wish to go for the 'Basic' package to do the work yourself.
You can quickly compare the differences in the table below.
If you are looking to compare with other labs then please note that unless they have a post-scanning editing service then they will perform the actions 'Within the Scanner' but no further.
Within the Scanner | Correct and Rotate | Professional Editing Package | |
Colour Correction | Yes (Simple) | Yes (Advanced) | Yes (Advanced) |
Contrast Correction | Yes (Simple) | Yes (Advanced) | Yes (Advanced) |

Got some surprisingly sharp results from a few handheld outdoor shots taken on my tanklike mamiya rb67. Likewise some surprisingly good exposures despite a flashgun which failed to fire (kodak tri-x 400 obviously has decent lattitude!).
I was a bit disappointed with the waiting time on this occasion, which was one month from shipment to results. I think however this was partly due to my package missing identification tags, once the AW team cottoned onto this they pushed my film through development and scanning in a couple of days, thankfully! Five stars for this reason.
Quick turnaround and good communication through update emails. The scans always look great.
I sent 4 120 films. 3 Provia 160 colour, 1 Ilford Delta 3200 shot at 1600. Communication was good. Speed of development was not like greased lightening but not slow, and added to the pleasure of delayed gratification that is part of the film ethos. The big point is that the final results are superb - properly developed film with clean scans that I am delighted with. I shall definitely use AW again. My Rolleiflex 3.5f has a new lease of life thanks to AW.
Recently I bought a curious little camera, the Ensign Vue MKI, as I wanted to see how would these pictures would like. It has a brilliant viewfinder, but I have to tell it's not too easy to use, also mine has a glitch if I push the focusing ring in completely it will keep the shutter open, until you release and in a few cases I have forgotten to pull out the focus ring at all , causing blurry images. I will need to watch for these next time, but I am amazed that such a simple camera can produce these images, I am really satisfied with the work of Analogue Wonderland too!
