Fomapan 400 4x5 is an excellent large format film that is a flexible and affordable entry into 4x5 photography.
B&W detail and grain that becomes more evident when pushing Fomapan 400 4x5 past the box speed of ISO 400, but with reliable results and medium contrast in most lighting situations.

Foma traces its origins back to Prague in 1919. They have remained in the Czech Rupublic ever since, working throughout the past century on different films, papers and chemicals for use by medical schools and the military - as well as ordinary photographers in Eastern Europe. Their black and white films are the result of decades of expertise - you will not be disappointed!

I'm not convinced this is actually 400 speed film, it says 400 on the box but when metered for 400 it came out very thin, it even came out quite thin when shot at 200. It also has masses amounts of grain and and really very little resolving power.
Those two things alone make me wonder why I'd ever shoot it again when you've got Fomapan 100 available. Also it scratches like there's no tomorrow.
It's a film that functions, it records images but it's just not been great in my experience. And when shooting 4X5 you kinda want to be shooting something better than not great.
I have only had a large format camera for a few months and after getting to grips with it using paper negatives I wanted to start on film.
Foma 400 was a great price and has, so far, been an easy film to work with, both in camera and in the darkroom.
I would say that if anyone is looking for a budget entry into large format film photography then this is the one.

Awesome film!
IMO this is an amazing value for money! This is the first film I purchased when I stepped into the world of large format. I am almost at the end of my box and you can be sure I'll be ordering some more in the near future!

Impressive film
I've used Foma Action 400 in 135 and 120 formats before, always found it a reliable and versatile stock. Large format is a new venture for me so naturally went for an old favourite so that I could focus on using the camera, not experimenting with new film. Very happy with the results.

Great Value B&W sheet film
Tried this out at a workshop quite a while ago where I was really pleased with the results, which is why I reordered some from Analogue Wonderland. Wanted a reasonably fast film to experiment with that was good value.
