Last year the film community tragically lost one of its best-loved members: John Whitmore.
John was a member of the Sunny 16 podcast team, a regular contributor to analogue spaces around the UK, and a passionate advocate for sharing his extensive knowledge of film photography.
Amongst the many analogue items he left behind was a bulk roll of Kodak BWXX 35mm film and several prints of his zine series 'Choosing and Losing'
In honour of his memory, Graeme Jago (also of Sunny 16 fame) has hand-rolled the film into 35mm canisters loving branded with John's image (and humour!)
We are selling this limited run of BWXX film alongside copies of his zines - with all net proceeds of the sales going to a charity chosen by John's family: the Asthma and Lung Foundation.
What is in the bundle?
-
A 24(ish!) exposure roll of BWXX 35mm film. A fantastic black and white film, one of John's favourites, and a brilliant emulsion for capturing shadows and light. Important note: Graeme does not guarantee the quality of the hand-roll! You can see sample pictures from batch tests attached - but please understand that there may be light fog, or scratches. I would recommend treating this roll as a way of connecting with John's philosophy of enjoying the experience of film, with some gorgeous images a hopeful side-result!
-
One of John's zines. These will be randomly picked, and include the first three issues of 'Choosing and Losing' as well as 'Sri Lanka' and 'Sunny Nunny'. The zines are full of powerful photography and short poems/writings of John.
Please let us know in the order comments if you already have one of John's zines, so that we can avoid duplication if possible.
