Kodak - properly known as Kodak Eastman - was founded in America in 1888 and dominated the "Western" world of photography for the next 100 years, constantly in fierce rivalry with the Japanese Fuji. Similarly to Fuji the advent of digital photography at the turn of the century caused significant financial problems. A late attempt to win in the compact market was hit by the rise of mobile photography and bankruptcy followed in 2012.
Fortunately the photography business has survived under the Kodak Alaris name - based in Hertfordshire, England - and they have delighted the analogue industry by pledging continued support for film production and the promise of bringing back old favourite emulsions.

Test Film - Pentax PC35AF-M
Camera abandoned by my Father 30-40 years ago - may be more - so I put in batteries - everything seemed to work OK so put in film - all the pix came out OK and the lens is pretty sharp except when a finger got in the way! Rewind not working and then I remembered my old 'Genuine Phago Chaging Bag' bought 50 years ago and rewound the film by hand. Who else remembers or has a Phago bag?
Very reliable for a slightly nostalgic look but great colours. Gold is a ‘go to’ colour film that does take me back to shooting family holidays in the 70s! Highly recommended for sunny days and a fun image but it’s actually much more than that - I feel you can use it for lots of purposes so it’s really very flexible.

Warm tones, soft nostalgia, and true-to-life colour — Kodak Gold 200 never disappoints
I shot this roll on my Kodak Ektar H35N, and the results perfectly capture what makes Gold 200 such a classic film stock. It delivers those signature golden tones and gentle contrast that make everyday scenes feel warm and timeless. The colours came out rich without being over-saturated — reds looked deep and velvety, greens were soft, and the overall balance felt beautifully natural.
One of the things I love most about Kodak Gold 200 is its versatility. It performs best in daylight, where it brings out a lovely glow and fine detail, but it’s also forgiving in mixed lighting when paired with a good flash. Despite being a 200-speed film, I found it handled varying light conditions really well — from overcast skies to sunny garden shots.
The grain is subtle and even, which helps maintain that classic film texture without losing sharpness. It’s especially nice for capturing texture and detail in flowers, brickwork, and natural scenes — as you can see from these photos.
Overall, Kodak Gold 200 is a fantastic all-rounder — perfect for beginners and seasoned film photographers alike. Affordable, reliable, and consistently pretty, it’s a roll I’ll always keep stocked in my camera bag.

A great everyday film
I threw everything at this film a couple of weekends ago. Indoor, low light. Outdoor bright light. Shaded areas across water. I was killing a couple of hours and got through four rolls of this film and love the results.

I got this roll brand new to film photography, expecting generic true to life colours, and I was wrong. The colours are really nice here, and they do tend to have a summer-tinted hue to them which looks proper vintage film. It's also pretty forgiving of long exposures and less-than-ideal weather conditions. And for the price, you can't not really.
