Kodak - properly known as Kodak Eastman - was founded in America in 1888 and dominated the "Western" world of photography for the next 100 years, constantly in fierce rivalry with the Japanese Fuji. Similarly to Fuji the advent of digital photography at the turn of the century caused significant financial problems. A late attempt to win in the compact market was hit by the rise of mobile photography and bankruptcy followed in 2012. Fortunately the photography business has survived under the Kodak Alaris name - based in Hertfordshire, England - and they have delighted the analogue industry by pledging continued support for film production and the promise of bringing back old favourite emulsions.

Amazing film
Simply, a classic. Trustworthy, expensive but worth it.

Great film - vivid colours - not overly saturated - wonderful grain
Love this film just wish it wasn't so expensive, the short-dated deal was great though. Medium-quality jpeg scans and prints are great with no post-digital-processing. To me the colours are accurate and not overly saturated, appreciate a lot can be done with post-processing but with Portra 160 I can just shoot and go with the scans and prints as they come from the lab.

Underrated? Probably.
Everyone talks about Portra 400 and 800... and rightfully so. They're both excellent. But Portra 160 is just as good and often much cheaper. It's fantastic and you absolutely should have some in the fridge for those sunny days!

Great opportunity to shoot an expensive film
I took this with me on holiday and around at weekends, and honestly have taken my favourite portraits of my family with them (not included in the sample shots for privacy). If you’ve got the light, it’s simply fantastic. It doesn’t have much character, so if you’re looking for chunky grain or unexpected colours, this isn’t the one.

Hype is lost on me
It could very well be down to how much of an amateur I am with film, being pretty dang new to it, but I wasn't overly impressed with Portra.
I've shot different stocks on the same camera, in similar conditions to this day, and much preferred the results.
If it's on a deal and you've not tried it, you may as well, you can see lots of beautiful photos taken with it, but it just didn't do it for me.
