my go to B&W film developer since forever

Xtol has become my favourite B&W film developer since it came out in the late 90s (yes, that's a long time!)
Besides being environmentally less toxic than other devs, iIt's my favourite because with the 1+1 dilution, if the film is properly exposed, it gives a negative that is sharp, fine grained and with great tonal range and better detail in the shadows. I typically use Ilford Deltas, FP4+ films and the Fomapans and it works great with all of them. It requires a bit more precise control of time & temp.
I find that Ilford Deltas come out sharper and with better tonal range compared to when developed in ID-11

My Go To Developer

Have been using this for many years, it’s a great developer and relatively environmentally ok.
I always use it 1+1. You have to make it in 5L but i decant into old 1L tonic bottles which I can squeeze the air out of .

Good Developer

I have until now been using ID-11 or Rodinal but was working with a film that had times for development with X-Tol and I needed some new developer.

It takes a bit of mixing but as long as you have a big enough bucket and storage its great I will be back for more.

Photo was of AGFA 400asa developed 1+1 for 8.5

Xtol - a great developer

Xtol is a really nice developer when paired with my favourite film - Tri-X 400. 5L is a bit of a pain to make up (you need a huge beaker or similar) but it lasts for a long time (I store it in a wine box and it lasts for many months - longer than it takes me to use it all up). I also like that it can be used as the stock solution, so it's really simple.

Best Kodak's developer

This one used to be the best developer made by Kodak. And still it is - works great with regular BnW and tabular grain films. Not the easiest one to work with but definitely worth taking a try.
