Nice Budget Film

Quite a nice black and white film. Being one of the cheaper options out there you can’t quite expect the same quality as something like HP5, and it definitely has a noticeable grain, but I think it does have a nice look to it.
(All images shot on a Kiev 6C, metered at 160 iso, and developed in HC-110)

Great all rounder

Fomapan 100 is a well priced and affordable alternative to the more established brands, grain is well controlled and the film has a good latitude though it does lack some contrast but this can be handled either in the processing stage or in post production. But overall it is a excellent film.

Red window friendly 120 roll film.

This is a comparatively cheap film which processes well in HC-110 dil B and gives pleasing results. Most importantly the numbers on the back are a good solid black and show boldly through the red windows of my old folding cameras. I keep the backing papers to re roll the occasional Ilford film in a dark bag. Not had any number print through problems.
I also re roll it onto a 620 spool then back onto another 620 spool to avoid the film wave/bulge and use it in some old Kodaks. Takes about seven minutes in a dark bag after some practice. Keep it tight.
Do you know of any other 120 black and white films with black numbers rather than the pathetic dotted figures on Ilford?
I’d tried shining a little torch through the red windows until I found Fomapan!
Home processors, you’ll be delighted by the vivid green colouring of the antihalation layer that comes off into the developer, preferably one shot. You can give the film a rinse before fixing to keep your fixer clear but
all your temperatures the same. The green is just like the intriguing liquid in the giant carboys in old time chemists shop windows!

Great value film

Fomapan 100 is a good all round film, it's an older emulsion so don't expect super fine grain, in saying that the grain structure however is not obtrusive. Contrast is good. I have often used Fomapan 100 for pinhole photography and for that it works well, provided that you allow double the exposure after calculating for reciprocity failure. The sample photographs included were processed in Pyrocat HD, hence slightly smoother grain. Fomapan 100 is one of my go to films, having used it from 35mm up to 5x4 with good success.

As good as the best and 2/3 the price - wot's not to like?!

Shoot this beauty at box speed, dev in RO9 and you will be rewarded with acutance, contrast and nice meaty negs which are easy to print. And it responds well to the mid-yellow filter which is permanently stuck to the front of my camera when I shoot B&W. The bonus is that as well as being a good quality traditional-grained film you get 7 of 'em for the price of 5 of the 'major brand' ones. Jobs a good 'un.
