Ultra fine grain in negatives. Perhaps a bit too fine? Certainly not needed for medium/slow films. Maybe 400 upwards.
I decided to try Perceptol at 1+3 for the first time the other day. I normally use it as stock solution. It seems to have tamed the highlights. And do I see extra sharpness? I think I do!
I bought this as I was looking for a low grain developer and Perceptol seemed to fit the bill.
I have to say that the results are very good, I developer a roll of Kentmere 400 and the grain was very gentle with medium contrast and good sharpness.
However, be aware that Perceptol can’t yield full speed of the film, so you need to overexpose. Also it takes significantly longer to develop in Perceptol than in other developers. 23 minutes for Kentmere 400 in a manual tank + fixer means you’re looking at about half an hour of total time.
Is it worth it? I think so. Whilst Kentmere 400 does not have a huge grain, it’s a fast film nevertheless and the results I got with Perceptol are very nice. Next time I will see how it works with a ISO 100 film.
Nice creamy grain. Not advised if you've underexposed your negatives though.
Excellent for pulling film or just box speed if you want that fine grain/sharpness.

Perceptol is great. It produces the finest grain I've seen yet. Even on HP5 as seen in this picture. Sorry for the crease in the photo by the way!
