Retro

If you are looking into making your pictures to look retro, "washed-out", sepia, here's a film for you. Personally, I liked the look of the film. I knew what I was shooting and I liked the results. Definitely cool.

First experience with Psychedelic Street 400

I recently tried Psychedelic Street 400, and I wasn’t sure what to expect since it was my first time using it. The packaging caught my eye, and I love experimenting with new films, so I decided to give it a shot. Although I didn’t get to use it during my trip to England, I took it out for a spontaneous photowalk back home in Germany with my Pentax 17.

I’m really pleased with the results. The film delivered warm tones that perfectly capture a nostalgic summer vibe. It’s got a unique character that adds a certain moodiness to the photos, making it a fun and rewarding choice for anyone looking to try something new. Keep in mind though it renders photos a bit washed out but if it‘s a look you like, definitely go for it.

A nice Lowfi film

Yes it's desaturated but in a pleasent 70's kind of way. Film is a personal choice and this film is one which I like. The downside - price! It's rather expensive but given a specific project could be well worth another roll.

Great if you’re looking to try that ‘washed out’ look

If you’re looking for punchy colours, then perhaps try something else! Psychedelic Street 400 is for people looking for a desaturated, low-contrast vibe - shooting it in bright light or sunshine gives images a dreamy feel. Perhaps not as ‘psychedelic’ as the name implies, but tones are muted, with a green and yellow cast gently coming through.

The grain was a bit more than I was expecting for a 400 speed film shot in mostly bright conditions; in low light, dusk or overcast, expect that grain to come through a little bit more and for things to get lost in the muddy shadows.

Potentially could be used for some creative portrait scenes, but I feel you could probably get the same effect shooting some expired Fuji Superia.

Shot with a Canon EOS 30 and 50mm f1.4.

A fun film with a chance to show artistic flare

My favourite characteristic of this film is the muted colours, with warm yellows and prominent, yet almost pastel greens. The more coarse grain gives a pleasing vintage look, but this wasn't what I was expecting from a 400 speed film. A good choice for street photography and still life, but I wouldn't advise using it for portraiture and landscapes that you want to blow up large. A good film, but not technically great and sadly not for me.
