Description

Adox CHS 100 II is a sharp iso 100 35mm film, with two anti-halo layers for excellent resolution and detail. It has an emulsion that is great at differentiating between subtle and common neighbouring subjects (water vs land, lips vs face etc) - and it's clear base layer means you can experiment with transparency development.

Adox is one of the oldest photographic brands in the world, established in Germany in 1860 by Dr. Carl Schleussner - who worked on early wet-collodion plates and X-ray plates. The company started marketing their own cameras in the early 20th Century, and introduced a line of B&W films in 1952 that became renowned for their sharpness of resolution. A difficult end to the last century saw the brand change hands multiple times - and now Adox films are produced by Fotoimpex across manufacturing plants in Germany and Switzerland. Their products remain very high quality with a focus on emulsions that resolve incredible levels of detail and contrast.

My new summer go to film

I was super impressed with this film. It was versatile in low light and bright lighting conditions. It’s a really sharp film and captured detail I didn’t expect. I’ll definitely be using this again in the future.

Nice skies without a filter

My first time trying out this film. I shot it in a Ricoh KR-10 and developed it in 510-Pyro. The shots show a decent level of contrast and sharpness. The grain is small and well restrained. The skies show much cloud detail without any filters, too. It is a good film.

A very classic look

Adox CHS 100 ll has a classic look that I find very pleasing, minimal grain, and quite easy to work with, though I wouldn't really recommend this as your very first film if you're just starting out in film photography and home developing.
It's perfect for scanning, through does take a little bit of getting used to due to the clear substrate, though it's not that difficult to adjust to really, and the results are more than worth the effort. I'd love to see this film in medium format, it would be fantastic!!

Excellent contrast and very fine grain vs even FP4

I've known from online reviews that Adox is supposed to have super fine grain, but even on their fastest film here, I was surprised at just how fine it is, with the contrast also being punchy but controllable and the ISO of 100 being just fast enough for a little indoor shooting handheld even (though I'd recommend keeping to sunnier locations or a controlled studio setting for more reliable results indoors) One thing I must say though is that you should take Adox seriously about the light piping issue to make sure the results are this good, as the film base is clear and thin.

Dramatic and Different

This 100 ISO low speed film is a dramatic, different, and interesting emulsion from a fantastic company! I used it for a studio day, but was taken aback at how thin the film was when loading onto my dev reel. As a newbie I ended up scratching the emulsion, but I liked the results and will certainly be trying it again in the future when I'm a bit more experienced.
