Ilford Microphen B&W Film Developer 1Ltr - Powder

this is a dam fine developer, super easy to mix, great results. cant fault it. and its pretty cheap.

When I am looking to seriously push film, I choose Microphen. I can do it with ID-11 or others, but Microphen is designed with push processing in mind and it shows in the grain. I regularly shoot in a music club and at night, often Ilford HP5+ at 1600ISO or faster. Microphen is exactly what I need. Like ID-11 it comes as two powders that you dissolve one after the other. That makes for cheaper postage and longer shelf life before it's mixed.

This is a great developer, I have used it for many years. Usually I use it at 1:1 dilution which provides consistency from film to film. Adjusting times as per the instructions gives opportunity for boosting film speed. Even used for increasing film speed the developer delivers fine grain and wide contrast. All in all a flexible straightforward to use good developer. It remains my "go to" brew! I have use it successfully with HP5+, FP4+, Pan F+, Adox CHS, Kentmere films and others. It's the first developer I used and I stuck with it because it's easy to use, cheap and produces great results, even if pushed to 6400.

This does exactly what it claims. Produces very fine grain and sharp negatives with relatively low contrast. For that reason it is best used on slow speed film. I have processed fomapan 200 in this and had outstanding results. I process films in a stock solution, which can be re-used a lot, though you can dilute it down for one-shot developing. I have used my stock solution 6 times now and its still going strong.

It is really easy to mix. Two sachets of powder in a litre of water and thats it. Shelf life of made up chemical is reasonable if stored in a dark bottle.

I’m fairly new to developing at home and found this very easy to mix and use time and again.

This is my preferred developer for Delta film....delta 100 and 400 really shine when processed in microphen and as it is supplied as powder, easy to keep a pack or two in stock...works best at 1:1 dilution but 1:3 not far behind in terms of quality and micro-grain....Thanks AW, as always

I've been experimenting with pushing film and Microphen is recommended for this. The sample shots are Ilford HP5+ pushed 5 stops from ISO400 to ISO12800. That did mean developing it for 85 minutes, 1+3 at 24°c. You'll never be able to make posters either these, but it really copes well with pushing and the grain is as under control as you can hope. Really highly recommended.

Use this with all sorts of 400ISO films, and gives excellent results at box speed or pushed. Even helps with those films where manufacturers ISO is a trifle optimistic......

Great developer. Easy to dilute and you can develop up to ten rolls of film. You can use it at box speed with great results I have used it with Ilford Fp4 at 32 asa with pin sharp results using my manual focus nikon 24mm F2.8 ias lens.

Good dev for pushing standard films

Microphen, like id11 and d76 are tried and trusted chemicals, a good all-rounder for general use. Microphen is also good for push processing. Easy to mix and use.

My first time with a powder developer and it works great I found using 1+1 is ideal although 1+3 works well but you have a 23 minute development time which seems to be a wee bit long all in all a great developer in my opinion

I find microphen incredibly easy to use, and with the ability to develop ten films per box of powders, sorry fairly economical.

I've not done a huge amount of pushing with this yet, but it works beautifully with both Foma 100 and HP5+
