Paterson Changing Bag
Our Price: £28.00 GBP100086
A high-quality changing bag is probably the most important bit of kit a film photographer can own. Issues in the field can mean a jammed or partly-exposed film - within this bag the film can be safely removed from the camera and the problem resolved without you needing to find a darkroom! It also allows for home development without needing a darkroom. The Paterson changing bag is small enough to fit into a camera bag, but big enough for a camera to be fully opened or a development tank to be loaded and sealed with exposed film. The fail-safe double skin with a double zip closure will keep all light away from your precious film and the inner lining is specially designed to avoid perspiration in prolonged use/stressful situations!

Recently bought a 5x4 camera and my old changing bag was very cramped for loading the double dark slides. I needed a larger changing bag so I opted for this Paterson one. Despite having looked at the dimensions online, I was amazed at how cavernous this bag actually is! The photo shows that 5x4 dark slides easily fit with the slides retracted. The bag is also very well made, a reasonable weight and has both zip and velcro fastenings on the light seal. Unlike one of the other reviewers, I have not experienced any static problems. It is light tight and has plenty of room for loading film holders or developing tanks. I would highly recommend this changing bag.
This is my first foray into developing since being at uni. The bag is robust and certainly big enough to hold the dev tank and all the bits and bobs you need, as well as having room to walk the film onto the reel.
It was pretty hot and muggy the first time I used it, and found that the static inside slightly impeded progress, so do open the bag fully and get as much air inside before you use it for the first time?
Okay now I did not expect it to be this big but in this case bigger is better and the material it's made from seems to be great, plenty of room to move around in there (new one on the left)
When I first received it I was surprised that it was heavier than I thought it would be, but in a reassuring kind of way. By that I mean it seems durable and therefore inspires some confidence.
I was unsure if the design was really light proof as it seems so simple, but looks can be deceiving. I can confirm its definitely light proof and works excellently, plus there's plenty of rooms for moving your hands inside.
There's a zip on one end where you can put your film and things inside, then it's zipped up and folded over to make it light-tight. Then on the other side there's two holes for your arms to go through - the snug fit around your arms is what makes it light-tight, and I think the material the bag is made from helps keep out light as well.
Overall an extremely well made product and a good purchase. I'm happy with it.
