My Go To Developer

Have been using this for many years, it’s a great developer and relatively environmentally ok.
I always use it 1+1. You have to make it in 5L but i decant into old 1L tonic bottles which I can squeeze the air out of .

Good Developer

I have until now been using ID-11 or Rodinal but was working with a film that had times for development with X-Tol and I needed some new developer.

It takes a bit of mixing but as long as you have a big enough bucket and storage its great I will be back for more.

Photo was of AGFA 400asa developed 1+1 for 8.5

Best Kodak's developer

This one used to be the best developer made by Kodak. And still it is - works great with regular BnW and tabular grain films. Not the easiest one to work with but definitely worth taking a try.

Xtol developer

I use Ilford film, mainly FP4+ and Xtol is my standard developer.

Ideal for developing different film types in same tank

When out and about I usually carry a 120 film camera loaded with 3200asa ilford or Tmax and a 35 mm camera loaded with Ilford 400asa HP5 and at the end of the day I find that with xtol, because the development times are the same for both types of film, I can load the two different exposed films together in the same tank and develop, all in one go (saving a lot of time and effort ! I find the results to be just as good, in terms of detail and tonality, as with my usual Tmax developer which requires different development times for the two films. I have no trouble mixing the developer and even though I make up the whole 5L in one go I find the storage time of this is well over 4 months - I store it in 4 x 1.25 L collapsible opaque bottles. So it suits my photographic habits very well and I strongly recommend it for high speed films where shadow detail is at a premium.
