Develop your 120 film (medium format)

This is where you can buy 120 film development - with a full set of options for your perfect tailored service. Please note that 120 film development is the same as medium format film development.

We process 120 film, scan 120 film, and send it all back to you - with free postage both ways! The perfect place to get your medium format film developed and scanned.

Please note that we can also develop 35mm, 110 and more on the way. Head to our WonderLab collection page for the full choice of formats.

At the moment we are only offering developing and scanning services for customers in the UK. This may change in the future - please join our mailing list to hear our store news.

How do I send in my films?

Purchase the number of films you need processing across 35mm, 120 and 110 and proceed through checkout.

Once you have placed your development order you will receive an email containing a link to generate a FREE TRACKED postage label, specific to your order 🙌🏼

When you are ready to send us your 120 films, print out the postage label (it can also be printed at a local Post Office for free), pack up your film securely with a note of your order number, and pop the whole package into a postbox or parcel drop-off.

For sustainability purposes please use recycled and recyclable packaging for this stage ♻️ If you happen to have some Analogue Wonderland boxes on hand then they are perfect! We have designed them to last >8 journeys through the post for this very reason.

You will get an email from Royal Mail when your films have been delivered to us - which is when you can breathe a sigh of relief, put up your feet and await your scans!

What happens next?

We will process your 120 films in line with your requirements and add-ons. If you have requested scans of your film then they will be sent to the email address on your order via WeTransfer - with the link coming from lab@analoguewonderland.co.uk

We will then return your developed negatives to the postal address you put on your order (please check that this is right!) - with 1st Class free shipping 🚀

If you have any questions, or move house between placing the order and sending us your films, then please get in contact and the team will be able to help

Films we currently CANNOT process

Our long-term goal with the WonderLab is that we will be able to process every 120 film that we sell 💪🏼

However! We are building up to that capability over time. So at the moment we cannot develop the following films:

  • E-6 films (colour slide like Ektachrome)
  • ECN-2 films
  • B&W reversal films (Fomapan R or Adox Scala reversal)
  • Adox CMS specialty
  • Washi speciality films (W, V, R, I, F)

I'm sorry for any inconvenience, but over the coming weeks and months you will see this list continue to shrink 😅

What are your turnaround times?

We aim to turnaround your medium format films - and get them back in the post - within 3 working days of receipt. This means they should arrive with you within 5 working days of receipt.

NB: at the moment we are expecting some unusual circumstances and our turnaround time is 7 working days instead of 3. Please see this post for more details.

This may fluctuate, particularly as it is difficult to anticipate busy periods, but if we are running later than normal then we will always let you know.

If you require a special turnaround to hit a specific deadline then please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate. This may come with an additional cost, depending on the volume and the deadline, which will be clearly laid out in advance of your final decision.

What are the technical details of the scans?

Scan type Resolution File Size File Type
Standard 3637 x 2433 pixels 1-2 MB JPEG
Premium 5444 x 3648 pixels 4-5 MB JPEG
Premium TIFF 5444 x 3648 pixels 50-60 MB TIFF

Standard scans will be absolutely fine for posting on social media, personal websites, emailing to friends/family, and for making prints up to size A4

Premium scans are bigger and can also be used for posting on websites that can accept larger files (and won't simply compress that back down like Instagram or Facebook) - and they can make print up to size A3

TIFF scans are much bigger file sizes, so prepare for a longer download time and more computer memory needed! The bonus of this is that they contain much more information within the same number of pixels as the Premium JPEG scans, so you can edit them yourself (in Photoshop or similar) and get much better results with strong edits. It is a 'lossless' format, so hasn't had any compression applied by software before arriving in your inbox. It also means that even though the pixel resolution is the same as the Premium scan, you should be able to print slightly larger without loss of meaningful detail - up to size A2.

Can you push/pull films?

Yes absolutely! Just let us know in the 'Additional Notes' text box above what you need, and the lab team will make the necessary adjustments. We do not charge extra for this service 😊

How Does the Bundled Developing Work?

To make your analogue adventures even easier (and cheaper!) we’ve implemented the option to pre-pay for your processing when you buy your film. This means that you choose your developing and scanning options on this page, via the little tick-box above, and add everything to basket for an immediate 10% saving on all processing costs.

Your film will be dispatched in line with our usual shipping times (full details here) and you will also get an email with instructions on sending the film back to the WonderLab (with tracked shipping - on us!)

When you have shot the film - whether that takes you a day, month or year - you generate the free tracked postage label by following the simple instructions from the email, and pop it in the post with a note of your original order number. We’ll do the rest!

So buy the bundle and relax into the shooting process, knowing that you’ll get to see the final results from your photography, without having to reach for your wallet again.

Happy Shooting!

We send all parcels via TRACKED service - free in the UK for orders of film over £50.

This means that when you buy your film from us you will be emailed a tracking link at dispatch, and will be able to follow your parcel’s journey all the way to safe arrival.

Please note that it is not a signed service so you won’t need to be at home to receive your film, and our letterbox-friendly boxes fit through the vast majority of European letterboxes!

You will have different shipping options and costs at checkout, depending on how quickly you need your film. Please refer to the Delivery Details page for full information

Brian Stenhouse

Had 4 x 120 rolls developed. These were test films from 1920’s, early 1930’s cameras two of which I’d never used before, plus a roll from my Hasselblad testing a film back for any light leaks. Films used were Ilford HP5, FP4 and Across. Results were amazing, far better than I was expecting. The website was very easy to use and the postage worked really well. I simply printed the prepaid postage label, and took it to the post office. Cost included the postage so really good value for money. Download files were sent via email within a few days (very fast turnaround!) and I downloaded via my iPad which was very easy, and the negatives received a few days later.
All in all an excellent service, will certainly use again.
