Description

Negative scanning is when we take a film that has already been developed and capture high-quality digital images of each frame for you to see and share.

Please choose whether you want us to scan an entire roll of film (either cut or uncut) or individual frames. Then pick the quality that you require and we will do the rest!

If you have chosen individual frames please let us know which frames in the order notes.

After you have placed your order you will receive instructions for sending in your film (FREE tracked to the lab). If you don't receive this email within 2 hours of your order then please let us know.

For full details of our lab services - including FAQs about postage, scan sizes and more - please read here!

What are the scanning options?

We offer four resolution options:

Scan type Resolution File Size File Type
Low Res 1500 x 1024 pixels <1MB JPEG
Standard 3637 x 2433 pixels 1-2 MB JPEG
Premium 5444 x 3648 pixels 4-5 MB JPEG
Premium TIFF 5444 x 3648 pixels 50-60 MB TIFF

Low Res --> Best for social media / photo albums!
Low Res scans are perfect for printing or displaying 6x4 inches - they will also work well on social media or website where you need to keep loading speeds fast.

Standard --> Best for personal websites / zines / projects!
Standard scans will be absolutely fine for posting on social media, personal websites, emailing to friends/family, and for making prints up to size A4

Premium --> Best for exhibits / large prints!
Premium scans are bigger and can also be used for posting on websites that can accept larger files (and won't simply compress that back down like Instagram or Facebook) - and they can make prints up to size A3

Premium TIFF --> Best for home editors and professional display!
Premium TIFF scans are much bigger file sizes, so prepare for a longer download time and more computer memory needed! The bonus of this is that they contain much more information within the same number of pixels as the Premium JPEG scans, so you can edit them yourself (in Photoshop or similar) and get much better results with strong edits.

TIFF is a 'lossless' format, so hasn't had any compression applied by software before arriving in your inbox. It also means that even though the pixel resolution is the same as the Premium scan, you should be able to print slightly larger without loss of meaningful detail - up to size A2.

What are the editing packages?

After we have scanned the negatives from your camera in our Fujifilm Frontier scanners there are a couple of steps to make your photos perfect. Our goal is always to present your scans just as you saw the shot through the viewfinder - but if you are comfortable with post-processing software then you may wish to go for the 'Basic' package to do the work yourself.

If you are looking to compare with other labs then please note that unless they have a post-scanning editing service then they will perform the actions 'Within the Scanner' but no further.

Cheap and better quality than anywhere else

I had my first few rolls of film developed and scanned at a high street lab. When I switched to Analouge Wonderland for development my scans looked much better which lead to me getting my first lot of negatives rescanned and they looked so much better than before! I will only use AW going forwards! The price is great too!

Brilliant

I sent some cut rolls to be re-scanned after another company had done an excruciatingly bad job of it, and I could have cried when I got the scans back from AW and they were good quality. Will be using their lab from now on.

Fantastic quality service at a great price

So this is the first time that I have sent already developed negatives to get scanned, as I had only gone for prints with this roll originally given the fact that I wasn't confident at the time that the roll was going to be ok and that it was more photos for friends, not social media. Needless to say that despite the quality of my own photography, the scans I have recieved are excellent (better done and much higher resolution than any previous scans I have gotten) and this was done relatively quickly given that the Wonderlab isn't a high street 1 hour developing shop. Would use again for any future rescans I need done.
