Delta 100 in large format is a modern emulsion from Ilford and this is the daylight-rated variant- created with finer grain to provide sharp black and white images with excellent contrast.
While this means the 4x5 film is slightly less forgiving of wide exposure latitudes, the professional results when you nail the exposure will blow you away!
Ilford was founded in 1879 in the English town of the same name. They are B&W royalty in the photography industry thanks to their 140-year heritage and their support for photographers with chemicals and development as well as film. In the mid-20th Century they produced several well-regarded camera lines (including one given to Princess Elizabeth that was later stolen!) but today they are focused on producing the best films and development processes that they can.

This is a modern film with a fine grain that captures tones very well. It is forgiving and flexible. However, it also tends towards a contrasty look, which not everyone wants. If you want even sharper from Ilford, PanF 50 (unfortunately not available in 4x5) is worth considering, or for a less contrasty look, FP4 is beautifully smooth.
That said, it is the modern answer to HP5. It boasts a modern look and finer grain, which will excite you with the flexibility and creative potential of Delta 100. It's also easy to push (or pull) around, giving you more control over your desired effects.
It is worth noting that while this is not Ilford’s cheapest film, it is very good value.
I managed to get hold of some Ilford Delta 4x5 sheet film through Analoguewonderland recently and fell in love with the film. The first week in January this year i took a short break in Southampton and went to the Solent Sky aircraft museum and photographed the Supermarine S6a seaplane. I used the Ondu pinhole camera with an exposure time of 30mins at f151. As far as i am concerned the results of the film are amazing! I highly recommend Delta 100, or any of the ifords!
Delta 100 is a superb film which delivers premium qualities, especially around the mid tone areas where I find the film shows outstanding tonal separation. Grain is all but non existent allowing large enlargements without loss of image quality. All this does come at a premium price however this is justified whenever premium results are required. To process I typically use either Ilfotec HC or a 2 bath developer if I need to control highlight values. Do not pre soak film prior to development as I understand the emulsion contains a wetting agent which is used to assist even development. Very easy to handle - an outstanding film
I have been shootong 5x4 on and off for almost 40 years now. This film is almost sex. Using 5x4 blows any digital sensor out of the water, tones are smooth, detail is incredible, its forgiving in the dev too............. cheers now fez parker
