Kodak Pro Image 100 – 35mm Film Review

I first tried Kodak Pro Image 100 after picking it up on sale through WonderPoint — the deal was great, and I ended up reordering it several times because it worked so well for me.

This film has a soft, natural look that works beautifully in all seasons. It captures color in a subtle and balanced way, with a slightly warm tone that’s especially flattering for portraits and everyday scenes. The film speed (ISO 100) means it handles exposure gently — giving smooth, low-grain images in good light.

I did notice that some of my shots came out a little soft or slightly out of focus — possibly due to slight movement during longer exposures, since it's not a fast film. But when it works (which is most of the time), the results are lovely — with a calm, clean feel and great color accuracy.

While Pro Image 100 can be pricey when not on sale, I think it’s worth it for the quality. It’s a versatile film that handles different subjects well — from portraits and still life to city scenes and nature.

Best for:
🌤️ Bright daylight shooting
📸 Portraits and soft, natural looks
🎞️ Photographers who like classic, clean tones

Things to note:
⏳ Not ideal for fast-paced or low-light shooting
💸 Can be expensive unless on offer

Pleasantly Surprised

I was going to get rid of a Kiev 4a, based on some truly awful images I made with expired film, then I obtained some of the better Jupiter lenses quite cheaply, so, having bought a pack of Pro Image 100, I gave it a go. By mistake I thought I'd taken the resulting images with Ektar ( a birthday gift- I could never afford it otherwise), then I checked the negs. So, good colour rendition, no problems with grain, but above all some fine details revealed.

Performs Above 'Budget'!

I ran a roll of this through a Nikon FE, ahead of trying out home developing colour for the first time (I'm usually only on black and white, but got intrigued by a Cinestill 41 developing pack from here - must review that at some point too).

The film seems pretty forgiving, and gave me nice definition between the colours. My processing skills need improving, as I thought it initially a bit on the 'cold' side, but I just needed to play around with it a bit more, as the colour rendering was lovely.

The 100 speed did limit me occasionally, but if you know you're going somewhere nice and bright on holiday, I reckon I might spring for a five pack of this, knowing it's not going to cost the earth, and it will still give me great results...

Beautiful and Crisp

Kodak Pro Image 100 is certainly one of, if not the best budget friendly colour film out there, for around £10 a roll on average this should be in everyones go bag, lines and edges come out crisp, colours are bright and vibrant, the fine detail is amazing. If you don't want to have to think about choosing a colour film and you're indecisive with all the options on the market, Kodak Pro Image is the simple choice that provides every single time.
