Retro

Well, it certainly lives up to its name, since it looks very retro and out of time. It has very washed out look. It feels like I'm looking at the pictures from the 90s. On other hand, I wish the photos were more saturated. I like it for what it is.

Underwhelmed

Since it was announced I had been itching to get my hands on a roll - being a big fan of Lomography's other colour films, especially Metropolis - so having finally got my hands on a roll and shot it I can only say I am a bit underwhelmed by the results. It all just feels like it's lacking that intangible bit of magic. Maybe a lower ISO - 100 or so - version would be better. Whilst it's by no means a bad film, and I'm quite pleased with some of the photos I took on it, next time I'll definitely grab a roll of Metropolis first.

disappointing results

okay, so the day I shot this was a little overcast, but where's the punch? where's the oversaturated tones as seen on the packaging? ...kind of get the feeling I got a roll of mislabeled Metropolis.

Interesting Retro Look Colour Film

This was the first film that I'd ever shot from Lomography. I really liked the look of the sample images and decided to give it a go.

Things didn't get off to the best start! I really struggled to load it into my AE-1P - it just wouldn't take up and it took me ages to get it loaded. I've never had that problem with any other film! I've read reviews since where people have suggested that the problem is the very short leader on this film and have cut it longer to make it easier to load, so that might explain the issues I had.

Once loaded, we were all good to go and I took it for a walk around Birmingham. In the early afternoon, there was quite bright sunlight but, a few hours later, it was getting dark so I got to see how it performed over a range of lighting conditions.

I was quite impressed with the results. It definitely leans more towards the cooler end of the spectrum, with blue and green tones looking particularly strong. In lower light, the images look a bit more desaturated but it's still a very pleasing look. Despite the loading issue and the fact that I only got 35 exposures from the roll, this is still a film I would buy again in the future.

Retro look

Images tends to lean cooler on daytime. I heard it’s warmer tones at night time/lower light situation. Heavier grain stock compared to the ultramax400/portra 400 line.
