About Polaroid

Polaroid changed consumer photography in the 60s by condensing all of the darkroom processes and chemicals inside the camera itself to create the first "Instant" photography. Founded in 1937 and run by Edwin Land for four decades, the company was famous for its culture of engineering-based innovation, but unfortunately like Kodak and Fuji it failed to cope with the digital revolution. Bankruptcy in 2001 was followed by the company being sold off and wrapped up. Fortunately for photographers everywhere, the last factory producing their instant film in the Netherlands was purchased by "Impossible" who had to reinvent many of the chemicals and processes but kept producing. Then in 2017 "Impossible" bought the rights to the old name and have rebranded as "Polaroid Originals" with a new line-up of films and products that will bring your instant camera to life!

not as colour accurate as instax but a great aesthetic

instax is way more accurate and detriorates less when it expires, but polaroid is a really nice oldschool look. polaroid expires after a year and after it expires it can create some fun colour shifts and look quite pink etc

Dreamlike Whimsy

Sometimes hard to get the balance of light right with this film but you can get some interesting effects either way. Definitely has that dreamlike 'Instagram' look, which you will either love or hate. Good that it's cheaper than 600 film but still a pricey mistake if you mess up a shot!

Good for use with a Polaroid Lab

I'm a fan of Polaroid and used Polaroid iType film many times in recent years but I tried it out recently in my Polaroid Lab. The results were better than expected and looked just as good if not better compared to some iType camera shots.
I still prefer shooting on my old SX-70 film cameras but iType is a slightly cheaper, easy to use alternative.

Prefer it to the B&W version

Used with the I-1 camera and gives pleasing results. I don't always follow the makers' suggestion to use the flash even with outdoor shots. One of the sample images was taken this way. Use the smartphone app for better control.
