I used this with an orange and sometimes a red filter. Lovely dark blacks and good contrast.

Punchy, fine grain, classic Adox look.

From one of my favourite film developers, the Adox Scala 50 is an incredible film stock you have to try. Super sharp, with incredible detail. There's nothing like holding up a slide film to the light as well.

Fairly unique film

One of the uniqueness of it, that it's reversal film. The possibilities to develop normally or as reversal, is interesting. So far, by looking at my results, I'm fairly satisfied with the results. It's quite low iso, so you definitely need some light source for this one.

Interesting

It has this unique, mouldy texture. It isn't either that white or black, but more leaning forwards to grey-ish colour palette.

Another wonder from WonderBox

Very cool, black-and-white reversal slide film. The result that came out are pretty edgy and haunting in their own way. I liked it the most, when it was used as experimental tool, getting unexpected results.

Lovely inky film

A really nice 50 iso. A toggle between this and Washi S. Some great results for outdoor landscape and object photography. Need a decent amount of light above.

A wonderfully fine grained film. At 50 ISO, meter readings need to be spot on - there is little latitude for rescuing blown highlights or deep shadow. Lovely tonal range.
Leica M2 - hand held.

Excellent Black and White film

For me this film is perfect for portraits, especially studio portrait.
I will definitely buy again.

Awesome tones and grain

I ran this film through my Olympus Trip 35, the shots came out great! I love the contrast it can produce and the nice grain. It has good tonal range and really made the clouds in the sky stand out while keeping the foreground full of detail. I wish I could have seen it in it's positive form but I only had it developed as standard black and white.

Adox 50 in my 1938 Leica 3a

I chose this film primarily for its asa rating. When my Leica was built, it was never foreseen that films would achieve the high Ada ratings of modern films, so 50 asa suited my camera just fine.
I develop on Ilfosol 3, because I’m an old fashioned analogue guy, but I scan my negatives digitally now as I’ve lost my darkroom skills.
This film produces such fine grain negatives with beautiful contrast. I love it. I’m trying other low asa films but I can certainly recommend this film, especially if you’re using an older 1950s/ 60s camera.

Can you process this film at home? The adox link does not make it clear.

Sally G.

Hello, I am planning on processing this film at home but I am currently experimenting with making homemade plant based developers and using salt water as a fix so I won’t be developing it in a conventional way!

Clive P.

Yes I will be developing at home in the dedicated HR 50 developer.

No, sorry. I can’t process this at home and my local processor can’t either. I have to send it away.

I believe adox sells a kit to process this film with, though I had success developing it with chemistry I mixed myself, very similar to the reversal process that ilford lists on their website.
