saturated landscapes film; with almost no exposure latitude

I reserve this for unique or monumental landscapes simply because of its price and availability or I should say the lack of it. The last time I managed to buy this film was in Japan at a decent price and there was very little space left in my cabin bag.. the interior sample I used was to demonstrate its resolving power and reliability in poor lighting conditions where it can easily outperform many high speed specialist films.
This is possibly the best colour slide films I have used over past forty years, yet a successful result does not come easy: it takes some time and practice to master and to hone its potential. I know professionals who would only use this film for their large format serious work; it does return a great saturation an deep hues which only Velvia 100 comes close to; if you wanted more realistic colours you would have to revert to a fresh Provia which can give more pleasing and realistic colour, if pushed similar to V50; this is a good film for larger formats and projection due to its very fine grain and level of detail that will beat any commonly available digital equipment. I have successfully pushed this film by a stop but pulling is a waste of time and money.
My main challenge remains the same - many variables in determining accurate/ precise exposure. in high contrast situation you will not get away without a variety of filters to protect highlights, control contrast, etc.. Many people suggest 1/3EV overexposure as a standard, which I cannot really agree with. I have been using this film for over thirty five years and all I can suggest is - use the same camera, ideally the same trusted lens previously tested on many different films a just this one film until you 'master' it. There is a degree of unpredictability. The scans available on line seem of a poor quality and do not seem to reflect on the potential of this film for landscapes.
I would not recommend relying on post processing; a photograph is made inside a camera. If you do not understand the light and exposure and cannot use this film in a variety of lighting situations and conditions you cannot recover its potential on your computer afterwards.
I wish there was more of it available and at a reasonable price in Europe. In order to shot this film properly I would suggest starting with 35mm and moving into larger formats slowly. I almost exclusively buy it directly from distributors as the RRP is way out of my budget. You will need a lot of it to get the best out of this film.

This film remains an expensive long term challenge - but it can provide stunning results if you manage to nail the exposure.

This is awesome (if you’re brave enough)

This incredible difficult to correctly expose film can really shine in the right hands! Best sharpness and colour gamut is guaranteed. Been shooting it during incredibly dark and rainy day, without tripod - positioned camera on various surfaces to make slow exposures possible and it still recorded mood and atmosphere just perfectly.

such amazing colour reproduction

there's a certain hyper-real feel I get with slide film; it's both bright & true to life yet muted at the same time. so very calming. it's a little tricky to come by but so worth it.

Expose for your highlights!

This is a film I have only shot once, and it was a test roll to learn how to shoot it. Advice from twitter was to shoot for the highlights (I don't usually shoot slide film). As it was a test roll for me, I shot both shadows and highlights, and the twitter crowd are right (well of course they are, they're the most knowledgable bunch about film I've ever met).

I used this for a sunset in the New Forest and WOW when it works, it works! It realy seems to pick up the warmer tones and turns some of the coolish tones a little more purple, but ultimately I like the look. I'm going to have to stock up on some of this becuase for the right situation, it is gorgeous! I'd argue it is probably lends it self to landscapes, but to be honest I don't subscribe to the "This film is on ly good for this purpose" mentality, use it for whatever you want. Sunsets though will look awesome!

Best chrome film on color

Perfect color performance! The color of this film is always in love with it! The blue is very bright in full sunlight, but there are surprises in taking pictures at sunrise and sunset!
