Canon P & Keks KM02 with a bit of 400TX sprinkled in

This is a review of two products I recently bought from Analogue Wonderland, with the help of a few Wonderpoints.
I had already bought the diminutive KEKS KMQ in black, which is a great little lightmeter. I wanted a silver one to match my Canon P, and the KM02 was on offer so after very little thought, I decided to treat myself. TRI-X 400 was available at a good price so it seemed rude not add a few rolls to the order.
I attached my Jupiter 12 to the P and headed off to my favourite piece of railway architecture, the viaduct at Harringworth. The KM02 is easier to set up and use than the KMQ, and offers more settings. You can add different lens/camera combinations to the memory. I shot the Tri-X at 200 as it was a nice sunny day. The lightmeter coped well with the tricky lighting conditions, although it seemed to slightly overexpose.
The lightmeter looks great on the camera and overall works well.
Really pleased with this purchase from Analogue Wonderland

Isn't kek slang for laughter or something?

Anyway... this meter is very accurate but very slight movements can change the exposure, I always air on the side of over exposure. It's a bit fiddly for fat fingers and I'm not super impressed with the battery life. I just prefer incident metering to be honest, but this is better than fumbling with an app on your phone I suppose.

Awesome, accurate and well built

I have been looking for a camera mount light meter for a while now. Ive purchased a few of the other well known brands but have never been completely happy - either they were not accurate or the build quality was so poor I didn't trust them. I ordered the KEKS KM02 based in strong reviews, but didn't expect much. This light meter hs proven to be better than the reviews. It hs changed my whole shooting flow. Mounted on my Hasselblad 500 CM it makes shooting so much easier - point, measure, shoot. No more digging out my (trusty) 308, walking over , taking a measurement walking back etc... In fact it now has a permanent home on that camera. Only problem is now I have to buy another one for my other cameras to share!! Absolutely recommend this to any photographer.

Keks light meter

I bought the light meter to use on my Leica CL as the built in meter has failed (again). Although I haven’t had the chance to use it properly, the quality and features are excellent and I have no doubts that it will be very accurate too. Early days, but first impresions are very impressive.

Fantastic light meter

I recently bought a camera without a light meter and needed to add one. I settled on the KM02 and I’m incredibly happy that I did. It’s really easy to use and read, as well as very customisable.

Does exactly what it should do and looks good doin’ it

The meter is small, light, relatively simple to use and meters well. It also seems solidly built and looks pretty cool.

KEKS KM02 meter

I bought this meter to be a more convenient, carryable alternative to my Sekonik hand held meter, for those days when I just want to carry one body and one lens with no other accessories in pockets or bags. The KEKS is so small, you hardly notice it's there on top of the camera, yet it still gives the same reflected light results as my larger Sekonik. I'm a bit of a purist at heart, so I prefer mechanical cameras with minimal / no electronics. As a result the KEKS is a great addition when the 'Sunny 16' rule isn't good enough.

It’s “ok” but maybe a bit soon to call it

Just got my first roll of film back that I used the KEKSKM02 for and my experience to date is a bit mixed.
Operationally it’s good it’s easy to use and also fits with the aesthetic of an SLR.
As far as getting the exposures right it was a mixed bag. For the test roll I only used the readings I got from the KEKS. I had set it to, I prefer over exposed but I still got what I think are a bit under which I don’t think I’d have got if I just used Sunny 16.
I need to shoot some more rolls in different lighting conditions to say definitely what if anything it’s giving me.
Jury is out at the moment.

A very nice little piece of kit

A very nice little piece of kit. A small challenge to set up at first, using the five push buttons, so keep the little manual handy. But when you’ve got used to it it’s quick and easy to use and goes well with my Rollei 35, because the display is invertable for the hot shoe, which is on the bottom with these cameras. The display needs to be set to 100% brightness for use in sunny conditions, but the battery life seems good so no problem there.

The Perfect Hotshoe Lightmeter

When you own medium format rangefinder film camera, you quickly realise the added challenge of having to carry a separate handheld light meter.

Although these are accurate and force you to spend time checking zones and dynamic range levels in your shot, there can also degrade your creativity and spontaneity.

This light meter creates an average exposure reading that takes little more than 1-2 seconds, letting you focus on the subject, frame and composition. Critically it has generated accurately exposed negatives in a variety of conditions.

Of course when atypical and high contract scenes are present you may want to confirm exposure by checking with a hand held light meter. My experience to date is that this will be rare with the Keks 2 light meter.

Good Dancer, Sadly No Ballerina

The good first. It works well, it is reasonably accurate. It fits my Leicas perfectly. The bad: The buttons need labeling. It is very confusing. The instuction manual is next to useless. The default brightness level of the display is too low to be used in bright daylight. It can be adjusted in the menu, but the unit reverts to default if it is turned off to conserve power. It can not remember the settings. So when you turn it on, you need to use the menu to adjust the brightness. It works fine in sleep mode. It is power hungry. It has enough for a day of shooting, but if you go on location take a power stick with you. For some reason mine does not charge up using a high quality Anker USB-C cable. It works fine with its own diddy cable.

My KEKS KM02

A fantastic little meter that could have been made with my FED2 rangefinder in mind. An exact fit straight out of the box, and perfectly suited to the 50mm Jupiter 8 lens that i use on it. Custom settings for the shutter speeds and apertures and exposure compensation for the expired film that i’ve got in it now. Thanks guys you made an old man happy. :)

Great and so compact

I am just returning to 'Wet' photography and this Tiny light meter has made a Huge difference. At age 80 I was already struggling with my Mamiya Super-23, then fumbling with my Weston Master meter before each shot was cumbersome and slow. Now it is almost like having built-in meter. I learned Forrensic Photography in Singapore in 1966. The Mamiya was their camera of choice, and was allowed to keep it. Yes it still work well!

KEKS 02 Light meter

I ordered a KEKS 02 light meter because I needed an ultra compact alternative to my ever faithful Sekonic L 508s.
I have a few analogue cameras that have ageing in body light meter that aren't always that accurate, yet have a cold shoe mount for flash units.
The KEKS is ideal for mounting on my older cameras without increasing the size much. I've found the inclusion of alternative movable cold shoe feet to be a real boon, as it means I can position the meter in just the right spot regardless of the cameras top plate layout.
The KEK is so easy to use and small enough to keep out of the way.
A product truly brilliant product that'll be in my camera bag at all times.
