Foma traces its origins back to Prague in 1919. They have remained in the Czech Rupublic ever since, working throughout the past century on different films, papers and chemicals for use by medical schools and the military - as well as ordinary photographers in Eastern Europe. Their black and white films are the result of decades of expertise - you will not be disappointed!

This is my go-to film for general-purpose medium format use, over many years. It's reasonably tolerant (though isn't quite as flexible as claimed with regard to how you can rate it - shoot at 400 IME) and in 120 the grain is pretty much irrelevant. It allows you to shoot reasonably fast at fairly small apertures, which is essential for medium format street photography. I find it particularly well suited to the Holga.
Recommended for both casual and street photography as well as more serious applications that prioritise speed over super fine detail. I would recommend this for beginners in medium format, too.
As someone who traditionally shoot colour negative film stocks, this was a great introduction to Black and White. You get beautifully clean shots, the grain is practically non-existent.
Easy to expose, forgiving I most situations, it gives stunning results at most light conditions. If shoot in bright sunlight, e.g. f22 expect lots of contrast , however if shoot indoors or with less harsh lights expect nice gradations.
Fomapan is a secret little film which is a great price and yields brilliant results.
I always get nice clean photos with a great contrast and you get excellent grain as well.
I love the style of the images and have always had a great results. Highly recommended this film.
Foma must be pulling the wool over our eyes with this one, because the (lack of) grain on this 400 speed stock is comparable to most other manufacturers 50-100 speed stocks. Simply outstanding.
The granular resolution on this stock is easily up to par with other major manufacturers' offerings, I'd be entirely comfortable recommending this stock for technical and high resolution/print scale projects.
Having used all three of Foma's standard stocks (100, 200, and this 400), I'd say choose this stock as standard for all situations, unless you want absolute granular perfection and aren't concerned with slow speed. At 400, hand-held shots are usually possible in overcast conditions in the f/4 to 5.6 range.
The negatives produced are at the lower end of contrast but show excellent dynamic range overall. With proper zone metering technique you can expect to fit zones II to VIII into your shots, with a little help from your editing method of choice.
