As a company Rollei is most famous for it's cameras - particularly the iconic twin-lens Rolleiflex - but this German-based company founded in 1920 has also had a long history of making B&W films. Unfortunately the parent company didn't survive the digital revolution of the 90s/00s but the brand survives today under licence to AgfaPhoto - who continue to support emulsions old and new.

Ideal summer film

Deep blacks, silvery greys and virtually no grain. I'll be getting a couple more rolls of this film for the summer.

Punchy contrast

I've only tried one roll so far and will certainly try this film again; however, it idoes appear to be very high contrast with shadows quickly loosing detail. The film needs more even lighting than the conditions I used it in. Probably best to assume that this film behaves like a slide film. I'll give it another go in lower contrast lighting.

Slow and low is the tempo

I love this film and can't wait to get hold of another roll. Stunning silvery shadows remain beautifully defined in deep blacks when you get it right and grain is virtually non-existent. A great choice over Pan F 50 if you can cope with the additional stop, though harder to tame than the Ilford stock

Perfect for: Portraits, Landscapes, Street Photography, Travel
Lovely smooth tones

Love this film. It's slow so you definitely want some sun, but it has a gorgeous tonality and lots of lovely contrast. Being a slow film, it has very low grain. And probably best to get your metering correct as it can blow out the highlights a little. But apart from that - love it.
