As a company Rollei is most famous for it's cameras - particularly the iconic twin-lens Rolleiflex - but this German-based company founded in 1920 has also had a long history of making B&W films. Unfortunately the parent company didn't survive the digital revolution of the 90s/00s but the brand survives today under licence to AgfaPhoto - who continue to support emulsions old and new.

Nice contrast
Definitely enjoyed shooting with this, it is very forgiving I think as you can see from the sample photos I had some issues with light leaks!

Lovely tones
I took a couple of rolls of Rollei RPX400 out with me to test a couple of 6x6 cameras. The films were lab processed in 510 Pyro. RPX400 is impressive, displaying a great tonal range, it holds shadow and highlight detail very well, coupled with smooth grain structure this film is a winner. This is definitely a film I will be using again.
Shot in a Braun Paxina 29. For what it's worth, i feel it worked very well as an all-rounder, and any exposure issues are more due to me than the emulsion. I'd recommend it.
I shot this on my Yashica Mat in some challenging light and it gave me beautifully balanced images. The grain isn't intrusive and the detail is great. Developing is easy, I used HC110. I would happily use this as my daily film as it is nice and reliable and reasonably cheap.

I shot a roll of RPX400 on an extremely misty morning. It is supposedly Kentmere 400, which is not available in 120 format. I like the grain in the Kentmere films so thought it worth trying it in the weather conditions to see if it gave a similar feel.
I wasn't disappointed. It has a nice grain to it and a nice tonality. Very flexible to work with when post processing, I could really get some nice gradations between the tones. I managed to grab some nice atmospheric shots with it. It will be interesting to see how it works in some more contrasty lighting conditions.
