How do I know what type of disposable film camera I have?

It will usually say on the packaging, as well as on the camera itself. Usually the wording will be along the lines of 'Develop in B&W' or 'Uses standard C41 colour chemistry' - something like that. We can cope with any disposable camera development so if you're not sure please ask!

The most common ones are colour C-41 which is the 'standard' colour negative film, and black and white (B&W).

If you have any concerns of questions about getting your disposable camera developed then just drop a line to our live chat - or email help@analoguewonderland.co.uk - and we'll quickly help you to the right choice.

How film development works

What are the scanning options?

We offer four resolution options:

Scan type Resolution File Size File Type
Low Res 1500 x 1024 pixels <1MB JPEG
Standard 3637 x 2433 pixels 1-2 MB JPEG
Premium 5444 x 3648 pixels 4-5 MB JPEG
Premium TIFF 5444 x 3648 pixels 50-60 MB TIFF

Low Res --> Best for social media / photo albums!
Low Res scans are perfect for printing or displaying 6x4 inches - they will also work well on social media or website where you need to keep loading speeds fast.

Standard --> Best for personal websites / zines / projects!
Standard scans will be absolutely fine for posting on social media, personal websites, emailing to friends/family, and for making prints up to size A4

Premium --> Best for exhibits / large prints!
Premium scans are bigger and can also be used for posting on websites that can accept larger files (and won't simply compress that back down like Instagram or Facebook) - and they can make prints up to size A3

Premium TIFF --> Best for home editors and professional display!
Premium TIFF scans are much bigger file sizes, so prepare for a longer download time and more computer memory needed! The bonus of this is that they contain much more information within the same number of pixels as the Premium JPEG scans, so you can edit them yourself (in Photoshop or similar) and get much better results with strong edits.

TIFF is a 'lossless' format, so hasn't had any compression applied by software before arriving in your inbox. It also means that even though the pixel resolution is the same as the Premium scan, you should be able to print slightly larger without loss of meaningful detail - up to size A2.

What are the editing packages?

After we have scanned your disposable camera results in our Fujifilm Frontier scanners there are a couple of steps to make your photos perfect. Our goal is always to present your scans just as you saw the shot through the viewfinder - but if you are comfortable with post-processing software then you may wish to go for the 'Basic' package to do the work yourself.

You can quickly compare the differences in the table below.

If you are looking to compare with other labs then please note that unless they have a post-scanning editing service then they will perform the actions 'Within the Scanner' but no further.

How do I choose prints?

When the team have perfected your scans then you'll get an email inviting you to view them in the 'My Photos' area of your customer account.

You will be able to view and download all your images. You will also be able to select your favourites to print!

Simply click on all the images that you'd like to print, select size - quantity - finish, and add to your cart. See below for a simple illustration of the process.

The images will be sent back with your negatives. For more information head here

Phenomenal

Sent in my Ilford Ilfocolor Rapid Half Frame and got my 54 photos back so quickly, so chuffed with the results. Great work from the team, as has come to be expected. I paid for the cheapest possible scans, as I have a scanner at the house but I'm nosey and impatient and really wanted to see what they looekd like, and the quality for the price is amazing. Would highly recommend.

An interesting Mother’s Day gift

I’ve always had my mother’s old disposable camera on my shelf as a little decoration piece but considered developing it as a present for her as it was about 35 years old.
I started by talking to someone on the team using the app, to see if it was even worth getting the camera developed due to the cameras age. Within a 24 hours I had a reply explaining that the camera would still be holding the images but couldn’t guarantee the images had been exposed properly when taken.
Happy with this response I sent the camera for developing using the included free shipping. About 4 days later I received an email letting me know the pictures had been developed and were ready to download via the app.
I’m very happy with the results and how easy it was to download the developed images, and for £13 I have a unique Mother’s Day gift that I’m sure will make me the favourite sibling for a long while! 😁

Great help from AW against all odds

I submitted a well expired (1970 something) Agfacolor 126 colour cartridge taken with a very old Rollei A26 camera to AW in the hope that 'something' might result. I was informed quickly that any result would be B/W only, and subsequently received scans that confirmed that the film had been well past its prime, and the camera was working. AW were brilliant in keeping me informed.
