I think I've finally cracked Fluorite, and the right conditions for it. Patience and practice pays off!!
It needs really bright sunshine (or perhaps overexposing by a stop - I'll have to try that next!) to produce wonderful colours and spots dancing across the frame. It's still wildly unpredictable (but then, souped films always are) but this roll shot on a very cold but very bright sunny day has produced my favourite results by far.
I definitely won't shoot anything but landscapes with it however.
Gave Fluorite another go, and with a much more suitable subject, and I'm glad I did! The results this time are slightly closer to the sample images, although still pretty different.
Souped films are, of course, unpredictable and each roll of even the same batch will give different results. Fluorite still doesn't compete with Charoite or Opal in my rankings, but I'll definitely keep a couple of rolls in stock for the right situation in the future.
I adore Hanalogital and her soups, and I'll always buy them when I see them. But, while I have another roll of Fluorite which I'm looking forward to shooting, I'm not sure if I'll buy any more Fluorite after that. My image effects seem to be somewhere between those in the example photos, and the other reviewers'.
I would have loved to see a bit more colour, the vintage sepia tones are cool but at times overwhelming; I was just left wanting. I tried to select some of the more colourful scans as my review shots!
To start, my shots came out nothing like the review pics or samples. More just a mega red hue with some petrol stains
This doesn't mean I don't like them and tbh I like a good handful. I like the lottery of never really knowing how the souping will effect each picture, however the price of the roll is up there and I would totally understand why people don't buy them.
If psychedelics were a film. Best used on a sunny day with great friends but not so precious subjects. I was more impressed with the sample photos than my own, but I guess thats the nature of souped film. Please note the scratches are due to my own heavy handedness and are not indicative of the quality of the film, this stuff is hard to scan due to extreme curl! I would leave this one to the lab... (sorry AW)
