Kodak - properly known as Kodak Eastman - was founded in America in 1888 and dominated the "Western" world of photography for the next 100 years, constantly in fierce rivalry with the Japanese Fuji. Similarly to Fuji the advent of digital photography at the turn of the century caused significant financial problems. A late attempt to win in the compact market was hit by the rise of mobile photography and bankruptcy followed in 2012. Fortunately the photography business has survived under the Kodak Alaris name - based in Hertfordshire, England - and they have delighted the analogue industry by pledging continued support for film production and the promise of bringing back old favourite emulsions.

You can't beat a roll of Portra 400, everyone knows that. Even if you don't like it you need to appreciate it for what it can do. One of my favourite emulsions. I like to use it for portraits and long exposures.
Considering the middle of the range pricetag and versatile iso, this film is all you'll ever need. Add to the mix the stunning dynamic range, skin tones , and fine grain, and I'd say it's the best film on the market right now
Finally took the plunge and treated myself to some 400 and I'm so glad I did.
Its absolutely gorgeous film. No other way to put it.
It works better over exposing by 1 or 2 (even up to 5) stops to get a nicer tone and a sense negative.
Shall be treating myself to this film over and over.
I haven't used Portra for a while but bought a batch just before the price rise. And now I'm remembering just why I've always loved it so much in the past. The colours are just FANTASTIC. And the latitude is great too.
It's sharp, detailed but still with a lovely natural look. If you scan it and want to push the saturation or knock it back a bit then that's fine too. It adapts well to all lighting conditions and captures exactly how you remember it.
It's not the cheapest. But it is definitely worth it!
