First time using a black and white film, would recommend!

The Ubiquitous Film

Lets face it - HP5... you know what you are going to get. This is probably the great allrounder film stock - it will do everything fairly well, it's got a bit of grain, reasonable contrast and it's just... easy. I don't think it's a particular stand out film - but it is great when you just want something predictable, so I have been using it to test out camera bodies and lenses as it removes one of the variables nicely.

Don’t usually use black and white but experimented with a roll for a wedding as a back up and came out better than expected

Forgiving but grainy

I'm not really qualified to judge the film but I'm happy with the results. Its certainly quite grainy (in 1+25 Rodinal) but not in a bad way. You're not going to mistake the scans for digital photos but that's what I wanted. Its certainly forgiving regarding exposure. I got very easy to print or scan negatives, darkroom printed just one of them so far. I'm going to try FP4 next to compare. I'll also try develop this in ID11.

Fast delivery and great for everything!

I've been shooting this film for years! Pushes well, and I load it in both my AE-1 and QL-17 for pretty much everything. Although I develop my own film, the fact that it comes with a box that's easy to send back is very tempting when I can't make it to the darkroom for a few weeks...

This stuff is the bomb! :D

I bought a roll of this to see how it fears with taking pics of two very lively dogs, I shot it at shutter speeds from 1/500 to 1/1000, I was not disappointed!

Highly likely I will be getting some more in the future!

Probably will try a smaller aperture next time though.

Shot on my Pentax MZ~30

The best?

As others have put it, this has got to be the gold standard for b&w photography. The latitude is honestly unbelievable, you could shoot this at 100 and develop normally and be able to recover your scan to look like you did nothing abnormal. Beautiful textures, contrast, and detail makes this one you have to keep on your person, even if it's just to make you feel good!

The Gold Standard for B&W

An absolute classic. Incredible dynamic range, extremely reliable, beautiful tonality. If I could only shoot with one B&W going forward, this would be it.

Good for emergencies

I've kept a roll in my bag just in case I run out, and it has saved me on many occasions.

Same Product, Nice Box

Seems slightly disingenuous to review this separately from the ‘normal’ HP5+, but here goes….

Run through a Nikon FE, mainly at a Highland Games (so I could take advantage of the fast box speed). Developed in 510 Pyro which softened the grain nicely, and I’m starting to come round to HP5+, helped by the fancy special edition box.

Classic film, great value.

A fantastic film stock with beautiful tones, great flexibility, and excellent value. Ilford HP5 Plus is reliable, versatile, and a joy to shoot.

My go to film

I love HP5 so much. After spending a good amount of time shooting kentmere rolls the step up to HP5 is noticeable. I love it so much and it’s now my go-to film. Incredibly versatile. I normally shoot it at box speed, but I also love shooting at 1600. Recently trying pulling one stop to 200. A film that I can shoot and develop at home with 200-3600 iso range is just awesome.
