It's back again for 2026, welcome to the Biggest Concurrent UK Film Photowalk of the year!
With multiple locations around the country, our plan is that everyone will be within a reasonable distance from a photowalk that suits them 🤩 You can read about 2025's Big Film Photowalk Competition winner here: Big Film Photowalk 2025 Competition Winner

What you will see with this ticket:
Starting at Rural Arts, we’ll begin with a focus on slowing down and taking notice as we head out on a gentle, unhurried walk through Thirsk.
Our route will take us towards Thirsk Parish Church on Kirkgate (with time to capture exterior photographs, depending on services), passing the striking Thirsk Sculpture Hall, characterful doorways, and the Quaker Hall along the way.
We’ll then wander back via the riverside, returning through Thirsk’s bustling Market Place.
For those who would like a little extra themed guidance, there will be an optional photo scavenger hunt to gently support noticing and creativity.
We’ll finish back at Rural Arts, where you’re welcome to treat yourself to a tea or coffee (café closes at 2pm).
The route comprises of 1.5 miles approx with one hour photography with optional cafe visit 1-2pm
Cobbles in marketplace, steps to church, rough ground via riverside would suggest sensible footwear. The marketplace can get crowded and an alternative route can be suggested if required.
Suitable for people using walkers or wheelchairs as church can be viewed from road, service dogs permitted, support with neurodiversity and anxiety are our specialism.
Rebecca is running this photowalk on behalf of Mindful Photography UK. Mindful Photography UK deliver courses across North Yorkshire for people who are not currently in work or who are looking to build confidence and develop new skills.
We particularly encourage women to attend and take part.
We understand that joining a group can feel worrying for some people. We are experienced in supporting individuals who may feel anxious, and we do our best to create a calm, welcoming and non-judgemental space. If this sounds like you, you are very welcome to email us in advance at rebecca@mindfulphotography.org.uk so we can understand how best to support you.
This photo walk is designed to be slow, gentle and mindful, with plenty of support throughout. It is suitable for all abilities—no experience or specialist knowledge is needed. We will help each other.
We place a strong focus on inclusion, ensuring everyone feels comfortable, valued and able to take part at their own pace.
Ticket Options:
Due to the success of last year, we have created not one, not two but three options for tickets this year, so that people who don't shoot colour/35mm film - or who want to develop their film at home or with another lab - can still join the Walk and share the love of film together!

**Important notes on the included Film Processing package
The included development and scanning only applies if you hand the roll of film back to your Photowalk leader at the end of the event, for consolidated sending back to our lab. We expect you to have finished one roll of film during the walk, and probably be halfway through the second!
If you haven't finished your first roll of film at the end of the walk - or you want to send in extra rolls of film - then please place a separate processing order through our lab at your earliest convenience.
The development will be: Colour 35mm, Standard Scans, Correct and Rotate editing package. If you wish for different options for your film please talk to the lab after the event and they'll be happy to arrange, and charge for any difference.
You will have the opportunity to order prints from your film after seeing the scans - this service is not included in the development package.
†A Black Colour camera will be provided, though this is dependant on stocks and colours may vary on the day.
Competition
We will run a competition - judged by our partners - for the best film photo taken on the day 🏆 So please bring your creative minds and favourite cameras for a chance to win serious goodies.
