Kodak - properly known as Kodak Eastman - was founded in America in 1888 and dominated the "Western" world of photography for the next 100 years, constantly in fierce rivalry with the Japanese Fuji. Similarly to Fuji the advent of digital photography at the turn of the century caused significant financial problems. A late attempt to win in the compact market was hit by the rise of mobile photography and bankruptcy followed in 2012.
Fortunately the photography business has survived under the Kodak Alaris name - based in Hertfordshire, England - and they have delighted the analogue industry by pledging continued support for film production and the promise of bringing back old favourite emulsions.

Poor Man’s Portra (in a good way)
Somehow I’ve managed to not use Gold much before. Very impressed, lovely colour rendition, there’s the characteristic warmth people talk about and the grain structure is really excellent for consumer level film. Will be loading up on this for a trip to Mexico! The 200 speed makes it very flexible as well.

Kodak Gold
Great film produces fantastic results. Colours are bright and vivid, and the film is tolerant to slight over and under exposure. Bargain price and won't disappoint!
Kodak Gold works for autumn colour, even on a dull day in Wigan.

Good for detail and realistic colour
This is the second roll of Gold I have shot in the present film era. I was impressed with the first roll but that was the very first negative film I'd shot in 20 years or so. It has a reputation for being a good holiday film but I was interested this time to see how well it captured a subject (detail, colour, etc) so shot a number of still lifes using a tripod, my fully manual Nikon FM2N and a Nikkor 85mm f1.8D. For a mid price film I think it punches above its weight.

Test Film - Pentax PC35AF-M
Camera abandoned by my Father 30-40 years ago - may be more - so I put in batteries - everything seemed to work OK so put in film - all the pix came out OK and the lens is pretty sharp except when a finger got in the way! Rewind not working and then I remembered my old 'Genuine Phago Chaging Bag' bought 50 years ago and rewound the film by hand. Who else remembers or has a Phago bag?
