Super contrasty

Best when there is bright sunlight (although easily becomes overblown) - I struggled to get many good shots on the mainly overcast days I was shooting, and none of the evening ones were successful. We live and learn! I think once you get to grips with it some great shots will come.

Rollei Retro 80

Shot these old posts up Thornham in Norfolk.

They didn't need a lot, just a tiny bit more range as it was a little too stark contrast-wise but otherwise nice results, definitely one I'll use again this winter.

Nice scans, hat-tip Wondies.

Intense

It's very intense film. The contrast. How some shots literally can get overblown because of the sun... It's especially perfect for architecture and street photography. Rollei is amazing. Will try out their other products soon.

Buttery smooth, perfect for portraits

Rollei Retro 80S is a relatively slow film, but what you lose in speed, you gain in smoothness and lack of grain. It also has extended red sensitivity, amazing for skin tones, and with the right chemistry, can also be developed as positive film. Not as versatile as some of the other films that are out there, but still one of my favourites.

Great results, but temperamental

Considering this is everything I dislike in a film (low speed, very fine grain, and high contrast) I was surprised to like it as much as I did.
I did find it difficult to get that exposure sweet spot, but that’s probably user error and not the film itself.
Really excellent quality for the price too, so if you're looking for a low iso/high contrast film it’s definitely worth picking up a roll.
