HARMAN Phoenix 200 35mm Film: Embrace the Unexpected in Every Frame!
Step into the world of analogue creativity with HARMAN Phoenix 200, a revolutionary ISO 200 colour negative film from the folks that run the Ilford and Kentmere film brands. Crafted entirely from emulsion to cassette at the HARMAN technology factory in Mobberley, the Harman Phoenix film marks a significant milestone in the realm of analogue photography.
Features and Benefits:
1. Distinct 'Analogue' Look and Feel: Immerse yourself in the unique charm of true analogue photography with the HARMAN Phoenix 200. The film captures moments with a distinct aesthetic, delivering an authentic look and feel that sets it apart from conventional colour films.
2. High Contrast and Vibrant Colours: Elevate your images with high-contrast visuals and punchy, vibrant colours. The experimental nature of Phoenix 200 results in striking images, making it a perfect choice for those seeking a film that goes beyond the ordinary and embraces the unexpected.
3. Versatile ISO Range with Creative Flexibility: With a DX coded cassette and a box speed of ISO 200, Phoenix offers creative flexibility by allowing you to rate it between ISO 100 and 400. This versatility opens up opportunities for experimentation in various lighting conditions, though optimal performance is achieved in good, consistent light.
Tips for the Best Results:
Ensure proper exposure by metering for mid tones to retain shadow or highlight detail, as over or underexposure may not be Phoenix’s friend.
Embrace the unexpected and relish in the quirks of this experimental film, from uniquely coloured negatives to chance encounters with coating anomalies
In every frame, HARMAN Phoenix 200 invites you to break free from expectations and savour the joy of capturing the unpredictable moments that make film photography a truly delightful experience.

A very unique warm tone that in the right conditions was really pleasing. I definitely wouldn't be shooting it at ISO 200 as the shadows just seem to fall right off, but shooting it at ISO 125 seemed to help with this while still keeping a warm and contrasty image.
It's probably not for everyone, and I think some cheaper stocks like Gold, Ultramax and ColorPlus probably have it beaten currently, but I can definitely see it's future potential and it's well worth shooting if you like more abstract and creative tones in your work!

Album cover vibes!
Decided to load the film into a point and shoot, to see how it coped with a more basic camera, and took it out on a sunny day.
well I was suitably impressed by the pops of colour - especially the reds and green tones. Reminds me of album covers for some reason 😊

Experimental film for experimental shooting
After getting my first roll of this developed I realized its something very special. Repeating what others have said it's not as precise and well rounded as more traditional film, but certainly creates very interesting results. A lot of my own photographs are used as references for paintings, so I love that it captures things a more accurate exposure would miss. Because of this I would say keep a roll of this on hand for when you want something intense and unpredictable, just be aware that theres a wild animal in your camera that you can't fully tame!
I had my Harman Phoenix 200 developed and scanned at Analogue Wonderland and the lab did a great job of it. When I got my negs back, I couldn't resist a quick shot of a negative with my phone to see how it fared in snapseed. Home developers need not worry about getting it right as the "phone scan" test isn't all that different than the scan I got from AW. AW is better, more resolution, etc, but it's nice to know home scans can be decent quality with very little effort. Phone used is a Nokia 5.3 with curve adjustment done in Snapseed.

Not for everyone
Very high-contrast, high-saturation film.
You can definitely get interesting shots with it (clouds looked great) but it's not a day-to-day film for your point-and-shoot. Especially results indoors with flash were poor.
