Intense

It's very intense film. The contrast. How some shots literally can get overblown because of the sun... It's especially perfect for architecture and street photography. Rollei is amazing. Will try out their other products soon.

Buttery smooth, perfect for portraits

Rollei Retro 80S is a relatively slow film, but what you lose in speed, you gain in smoothness and lack of grain. It also has extended red sensitivity, amazing for skin tones, and with the right chemistry, can also be developed as positive film. Not as versatile as some of the other films that are out there, but still one of my favourites.

Great results, but temperamental

Considering this is everything I dislike in a film (low speed, very fine grain, and high contrast) I was surprised to like it as much as I did.
I did find it difficult to get that exposure sweet spot, but that’s probably user error and not the film itself.
Really excellent quality for the price too, so if you're looking for a low iso/high contrast film it’s definitely worth picking up a roll.

An 'interesting' film that gives great results with a bit of care

I've used Rollei 80s several times over the years and have grown to love it. It's very high contrast , particularly at the 'box' speed of 80iso. If high contrast is your thing then that's great. The contrast can be controlled a bit though by rating the film at 40iso and reducing development by about 20%. Some people rate it as low as 25iso and get excellent results. It's incredibly sharp though and, developed in a fine grain dev like Perceptol or even ID11 it really shines. It responds particularly well to RO9/Rodinal,again at 40 but with a 1:50 dilution.

Buckets of contrast

Yep, a very contrasty film stock. If you're looking for contrast then this is the one for you. Almost no visible grain (which was nice) but I struggled in post processing to tame that contrast and achieve some gentler tonality. Not the film for my style of shooting, but I can see why others might love the added punch it provides (and lack of grain).
Kodak Retina 1a, FX-39 Dev 6.5 mins.
