The ULTIMATE Film Developing Starter Kit - Includes Chemicals

Contains most of the things you need to get going with B&W film development. Only things extra I got were a film squeegee (surprisingly expensive) and a changing bag (so essential I don't know why they don't include it).
All good stuff which worked well with one exception. The thermometer was useless. I couldn't read where the temperature was on it and when I rinsed it under hot water it simply exploded. Ended up using digital meat thermometer!

With the price and sometimes low quality I receive from a local photo shop, I decided the take the plunge and do my own. All the Youtube videos told me how easy it was going to be, but I was dubious. The Ilford starter kit did indeed have all the necessary equipment (except a changing bag and a squeegee) and after nervous preparation, I did it. The feeling of seeing images on the film when I took them out of the tank after the final rinse was one of great satisfaction. Why have I waited so long? Just do it folks!

This kit has it all. The measuring tanks, the thermometers, the clips, the canister openers. The icing on the cake is the Ilford Simplicity kit, which turned out great!

Never developed film before and contains everything you need to get started with black and white developing. Easy to use but only contains enough chemistry for 1 batch (of 2x 35mm or 1x 120 film).

I've been wanting to home-develop for some time, but the list of kit 'needs' seemed a but wooly. Someone suggested this kit and it's the perfect* starting point. I'd been most worried about chemical measurements, so having the 3 identical graduated measuring cylinders and the pre-weighed chemicals that all make up 600mls was such a simple way to start.

I'd questioned why there were 4 film clips, and two had different colour centres. In practice OF COURSE you need 4 for 2 films, because the two black-centred ones are weighted to keep the film nice and straight while drying.

The Patterson tank is easy to use, doesn't leak with the lid on while inverting, and the spool-on action is very effective/clever.

* actually... not worth deducting a star for, but I'd prefer it to ship with a film-finder / retriever and not a canister opener. So a suggestion: Learn how to remove film from the camera while leaving a small tail. Threading film onto the spools in the Paterson tank is WAY easier with a the canister in one piece.

I was made aware of the new Ilford & Paterson starter kit by AW on Facebook before Christmas last year. I ended up making home developing a new years resolution of mine, and decided to buy the kit along with a large changing bag and some other bits and bobs. I'm really glad I bought it when I did as now, during the Covid19 lockdown in the UK it's nice to have something to do and sink one's teeth into! The actual equipment supplied in the starter kit is all of great quality (It's plastic, sure - but nothing here gives me cause for concern) and very similar to the stuff we used to use in the darkroom at college back in the 90s. The first roll of film I tried my hand at was some HP5+ in 120 flavour, and it came out surprisingly well for a first attempt after a 20 year hiatus! The only niggle I have, and it is a minor one, I wish the kit came with another smaller measuring graduate in order to mix up the chemicals accurately. It's not a big deal on the first go using the supplied set of chemicals, as they're purposefully measured, but once you're pouring from bigger containers I prefer to have a smaller measuring cylinder to better gauge the exact amounts required. Overall though - this kit is great and I'd recommend it to anyone interested in giving home developing a go.

This kit was exactly what I needed to get me started in home developing. I loved being able to develop at home, and seeing my negatives come out perfectly was great and exciting. Looking forward to investing in more chemicals to develop my next batch of film with the equipment from this kit. I highly recommend it!

Just enough chemicals for a single roll of film, and all the gear you need apart from the changing bag. This is a pretty basic kit suitable for anyone who just wants to play with processing, like me. It's fun and pretty easy to do, and really satisfying when you see your own photos developed and hanging in the bathroom. The nice thing about this kit is that it isn't too big so is easy to store.

This was an xmas gift from my wife, great quality product, pretty much everything needed to develop films at home, many years of use ahead as it is all very good quality products.

Purchased as a Christmas present for our 14 year old granddaughter, who is proving to be a very keen photographer and is keen to understand more of the basics of photography. Her photography teacher at school has offered to help her with this starter kit.

I got one of these boxes last year when I could not develop film at college because of corona and still wanted to develop film. Being comfortable with developing I found that the simplicity chemicals were a bit too easy to use but I enjoyed using them. The other things included are the standard developing tools that are good and I found it very useful. The kit is good for getting everything at the same time although I don't know if it does save money it is still very convenient and the simplicity chemicals also are good. There isn't much to say because this is a good kit for home developing.

I placed my order quite late, it was for Christmas. I found them to be really helpful, answered my emails quickly. I was informed that they did not have everything I ordered and was offered a solution straight away.

Contains everything you need to process film with single-shot chemicals to match! After your first roll or so you'll find all you need is a couple of chemical bottles for your stop/fix (or more for colour processing) and this kit will sort the rest out! Before pulling out the chemistry, I found the cylinders exceptionally handy in the kitchen (disclaimer: I wouldn't say this is a wise thing to do!)

I bought this kit as I wanted to learn a new skill and further my fledgling film photography escapades. Has everything you need (although a measuring jug with smaller graduations would be useful when not using the Ilford Simplicity kit) The quality is brilliant, and although reasonably expensive, the money saved from paying a lab to develop will quickly balance the books. I have developed 4 rolls of HP5 film in total now, and have had zero issues (apart from beginners mistakes.....)
Highly recommended to anyone wanting to start developing their own film. It's a lot easier than you may think!!
