Pocket-Sized and Powerful: Shooting with the Kodak Ektar H35N
The Kodak Ektar H35N is a lightweight, easy-to-carry film camera that’s perfect for anyone wanting to get into film photography. It’s compact enough to pop in your bag and take out whenever you fancy snapping some photos — whether it’s a casual walk, a garden scene, or even a night out.
Despite its simple design, this little point-and-shoot is surprisingly capable. The built-in flash is powerful enough to handle darker settings when paired with a higher ISO film like Kodak Ultramax 400. I took it out on a night out and was really impressed with how well the shots came out — nicely exposed and full of character.
One of the biggest bonuses of the H35N is its half-frame format, which means you get double the number of photos per roll. It’s a great way to get more bang for your buck, especially as film and developing costs add up.
For a point-and-shoot, it’s nifty and reliable, and I’d definitely recommend it as a starter camera for anyone curious about shooting film. The photos I took came out with lovely colours and contrast, and none were overly grainy — even with higher ISO film. It’s the perfect blend of convenience and film charm.

Kodak H35N
Nice simple camera, which produces good half frame results. Switches for flash and star filter are quite stiff to operate and online camera instructions brief but overall this is a great little camera. Light and compact easy to load and operate, good value for money🙂.

Ektar H35N
Got back into film photography a while back and this was my go to for a point & shoot.
User friendly, lightweight with a straigh-forward flash mechanism.
The extra 'starry' feature is very cute, especially during celebrations and holidays.
Love that its a half frame camera, adding extra pics on a film roll.
I've taken it on trips and work events, very happy with this!
Overall it's a lovely little thing to take with you on a day out for a bit of fun. It looks smart, is easy to use, and honestly gives pretty great results if you're after that whole lo-fi vibe.
Definitely take note of the minimum focusing distance (I'd not used a film point n shoot for years and forgot about the drawbacks of the old fixed lenses), and remember your flash for indoors or gloomy forests in a Scottish winter (especially using Fuji 200 iso film)!

Double the shots
Fab little camera, I actually found it difficult to use all of the shots! First roll of film tried however was gold 200 and in my opinion way too underexposed in all lighting conditions. I tried Ultramax 400 and it was much better (it takes the most perfect flash photos, but still not as great in normal daylight). Quality is okay, similar to a disposable so don't expect anything above that. Still think its a great way to save money for film, especially for beginners or casual use. Attached some of the photos with the ultramax 400.
