Lovely film if perhaps a little muddier than 50D or 800T

I'm a huge fan of CineStill 800T and really enjoyed shooting with 50D for the first time recently. I found 400D obviously easier to shoot with than 50D (three extra stops of sensitivity) and I really like the grain. My only complaint would be I think is the colours can be slightly muddier, for want of a better word - perhaps a bit more brown or with a greener colour cast. You can of course edit this, but I couldn't quite get it how I wanted. I still really like the film and will shoot again.

Great Golden Hour Film

This is a fantastic film for capturing warm tones, especially during golden hour. It has the classic halation that you'd expect from Cinestill 800T but much more controlled, which also adds to the warmth.

That said, the reds and oranges come through very saturated, which sometimes can make skin tones look less natural or flattering. Even so, it's a great choice when you're after warm/golden tones and I'd definitely give a proper portrait session a go with it.

Cinematic look

I really love shooting with this film. Warm colours, and the halation give it a sparkly look depending on the light.

Excellent for street photography in the sun

I got this Film for the first time recently and it might be my favourite film stock I have shot (I have shot a lot of stocks) slightly overexposing this film is where it really shines creating an incredible glow in the highlights I found it shifts the highlights to a warmer tone rather than to a white which looks great. Would highly recommend.

CineStill 400D brings softness and warmth

The pictures shown here are the first I've taken using CineStill 400D, and I am very happy with how they came out. Even when the weather was cold and wet, the film does a great job at bringing out a softness in the colours, and injecting warmth into the environment. I especially like how the low light from the setting sun is captured in these images. I will definitely be using this film again.

Great pushed indoors

I bought this film as I'd read that it had good latitude to be pushed and I was hoping to get some indoor photos over winter while still having relatively fast shutter speeds.

A lot of the photos were shot in artificial light, so have a yellow tone to them as it's daylight balanced film but that's expected. I also shot some with natural light coming in through the windows, though still not a massive amount of it, this is where I really liked the results.

The film has nice colours, great detail and contrast and didn't show any issues with being pushed to 1600. I'd definitely pick it up again if I was going to shoot in lower light situations without wanting to go straight to the native 1600/3200 speed film.

"Look at the colours on that xylophone!"

"Look at the colours on that xylophone!" and other things I said to my wife when I got my Cinestill 400D scans back. Other excellent lines included "I don't remember taking a picture of those pine cones" and "I think that's from Wallace and Gromit".

Excellent for all weather/lighting situation, slightly pricey but always lovely results!

Unsure

Admittedly I shot this roll in a (reusable) disposable camera, so not the best optics, and the negatives have been lab scanned and not further 'edited'. Nearly all the images on this roll came out very warm and with little contrast or vibrance - so as expected. However, I feel like my shots take this a little too far which is not my favourite look, especially given the cost of the film.

Rich dense colours

The colours have depth and richness and yet remain true to the subject. It resolves excellent levels of detail. Didn't show any halation effects in my shots. Recommended.

Quite simply a stunner!!

What a lovely, effortless and high quality film this is! I saved some for a special trip and the results did not disappoint. It's easy to see why Cinestill is so popular - it just makes every photo look its most spectacular! Will be buying again soon!
