Ilford was founded in 1879 in the English town of the same name. They are B&W royalty in the photography industry thanks to their 140-year heritage and their support for photographers with chemicals and development as well as film. In the mid-20th Century they produced several well-regarded camera lines (including one given to Princess Elizabeth that was later stolen!) but today they are focused on producing the best films and development processes that they can.

Tried something new... didn't really work out
Allow me to start by saying that FP4+ is a great film...only this time, after rishi it to ISO 400 (as I've done a few times previously) I developed it in 510 Pyro for 18 mins. Unfortunately, this didn't quite work out as well as previous, when developed in HC110. If you're thinking of trying this yourself, I'd suggest reducing the time (18 mins) to maybe 15 mins, as the negatives look somewhat over-developed.

Versatile
A very versatile film, it can be pushed or pulled significantly and can also tolerate over or under exposure of a good couple of stops.

When FP4 was there
This is the house beside the harbour at Burnham Overy Staithe that inspired the children's story When Marnie Was There.
There's no mysterious girl having her hair combed in the upstairs window as main character Anna passes the house that seems to melt into the mists that shroud the salt marsh.
I pushed FP4 to 200 and it's not far off, with plenty of sharpness and detail to be had.
I shot a roll during the day of snow we had in Wigan and this film shines in bright contrasty conditions. Pushing it 2 stops helped too.

High contrast and grainy: wedding photos
Took a roll of this to a wedding with me. Amazing stuff! I think it's a bit too dark for a wedding - gives it too much of an eery look but I really like it. First time using it so next time I'd just overexpose a tad. It's definitely a vibe and the couple love them!
